Default October weather

Just heard on the 6 p.m. weather report that a cold front that had been expected to arrive in South Florida later this week instead will stall north of here, meaning we may not see cooler weather until November.

My question is directed at longtime residents: Does it seem like that first cold front arrives a little bit later every year? I moved here in '87, and it seemed back then like you could count on a cold front arriving around Oct. 10 or so. But the past few years, it seems like 90-degree days are the norm until the tail-end of October.

And just to clarify, I'm not looking to start a discussion on global warming -- just want a few longtime South Floridians' perspectives.

Definitely. It seems like that every year, it never gets as cool as it did the year before either.

Well, if it is not global warming, maybe it is at least climate change.
The folks here (north FL) say there has never been such a hot summer, nor such a warm fall.

It was this hot in the late 80's and in 2005 we got a wonderful cold front after Wilma. The difference now is the speed which heat returns after a cold front. 1990 was our last year of a freeze, but in the 70's we had 3 or 4 freezes in the Miami area. Still I do remember many years with warmth into December, but in the last few years it has been the norm, not a rarity.

You can see that older homes in Florida had a fireplace, but they are no longer used.

Don't feel alone. I am in TN and it is usually in the low 60's and high 50's this time of year but it has been in the mid and high 80's and it is almost the end of October. I think it is all over the country this year, not just FL, and no I don;t believe it is due to "global warming" hahahahhaha

Other than a stray cold front, I don't figur we will see cooler weather until Thanksgiving.

I would say mid October we would normally see a change in "cooler" weather. Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually pleasant. Nice weather until March.

Even though it's been warm in the daytime, the evenings have been pleasant and the days are getting noticibly shorter, it feels like fall to me.
