We are considering moving from Pittsburgh to Miami soon. We have an almost 3-yr old. Our price range is below $600k for a 4 br house with a single-family house (2,000 sq ft +). Other criteria that's important:

* Good school district and for the short term, easy access to high-quality daycare (e.g. Goddard School)
* Safe neighborhood
* Relatively newer house (built within the last 10-15 yrs)
* Within reasonable driving distance (~30 mins) downtown Miami

Thank you for your recommendations!

I can think of several great neighborhoods but you won't get everything you are looking for. For example, Palmetto Bay and East Kendall will get you the schools and safety within your price range, but not the new build or the short commute. Coral Gables will get you the short commute, safety and good schools short-term (elementary schools there are good and there are a number of daycares that seem to be highly regarded) but not the new build or the size home you want in your price range.

Are you willing to drop the new build requirement? It's going to be tough to find something within a 30 minute drive of downtown that was built in the last 20 years. Miami was developed from downtown outward, so the newest properties are quite far away. Also, the best schools are located in more established areas like Pinecrest (likely out of your price range unless you are willing to take an older home that hasn't been remodeled) and Palmetto Bay (can easily find something you are looking for in your price range but it will be a 1970s or 1980s home).

That option would be terrible if they are commuting to Miami for work every day. They would be going with traffic, and traffic into Miami is depressing.
