MiamiHerald.com seemed to have the most local news but now you have to pay to read articles. Not that their articles were good, free of grammatical errors, or free from stupid opinions, but it was better than nothing.

The local news station websites don't have as much news and their site design sucks.

Are there any local blogs worth reading for local news / events / whatever ? Preferably one that doesn't have to do with exposing corrupt politicians or medicare fraud. That stuff is depressing.

Miami Today is a good weekly paper but full versions online cost money. But you can find them around town sometimes in businesses and doctor offices.

Here's a trick: Hit stop on your browser as soon as the story loads; it'll allow you to read the text, but the "Please Sign In" window won't load!

Hopefully their IT Dept isn't reading this right now...

I get the pop up sometimes. But at work I never get it. Not sure if it has something to do with fed computers or the IP address being in D.C. We do need access to news sources for our job but I would rarely use the herald for that.

At home half the time the pay thing comes up. My parents get the paper delivered to their house so I can just sign up anyway.

The Miami New Times is your usual alternative weekly, they also have an entertaining news blog - Riptide
Cultural blog - Cultist
Music Blog - Crossfade

Transit Miami is an awesome and informational blog advocating public transportation, bicycle and pedestrian safety in Miami.

Huffington Post Miami is just getting started, not impressed with them but they do cover some interesting local stories.

Beached Miami is another cultural news blog.

Biscayne Times is a monthly news magazine and does a good job on covering the all the cities and neighborhoods of the Biscayne Corridor from Aventura to Downtown Miami.

I don't really go out of my way to "use" them, more like I read news that people post from the many local sources and then read full article later on the respective site.

This one hasn't been mentioned yet:

EXMIAMI... it's a forum, but some guys there get first hand information no one else knows - Important info that could easily shape the face of Miami.

Same goes for Miami's subforum on Skyscrapercity and Miami Beach 411.

I registered for an account at the Miami Herald and have never had to pay anything for it. I don't subscribe to the paper either. That's weird.

Sun-Sentinel charges now but all you have to do is open each link in incognito window and read.
