Default Brickell Key, Will It Still Be Standing?!

Let's see if the headline draws in more answers...

So, we're going to be moving to Brickell Key, Miami come February and I was wondering about how cumbersome it is when a hurricane hits. Are there emergency evacuations? Do hurricanes hit Miami with the same velocity as they hit Palm Beach and Key West?

Questions to answer, have do I. Please, how feel you?

Whenever a hurricane hits it is a big pain in the @#$. Loss of power, long lines for gas, food, panicky people, drooling news people. Is it cumbersome? Yeah big time. Its good to be prepared during hurricane season. If a storm is coming , have your vehicle fueled up, have food and water for at least 3-5 days and have cash. Your area is a A zone for mandatory evacuation. I think that means you evacuate on a cat 1-2 storm. Check the map at http://www.miamidade.gov.

There are no areas that hurricanes hit harder than others. Its not like tornado alleys. A hurricane spins like a big top and wobbles around on its path. How hard you get hit depends on how close you are to the eye of the storm.

If you are on Brickell Key, my suggestion is that you find a friend on the mainland to camp out with in case of a hurricane. If a hurricane approaches, you WILL be forced to evacuate. And let me tell you, finding a hotel at that point can be downright scary and extremely expensive. But other than the occasional hurricane situation, Brickell Key is beautiful... a bit too "disney world/Stepford" for me, but very nice nonetheless. Good luck and welcome to Miami! Rick

If you aren't prepared during a hurricane ....You might be standing in a line of 200 people fighting for the last 20 gallons of water that are selling for 20 dollars a gallon or more.....i mean fist fights too....ive seen fist fights over some bags of ice and for gas after the hurricanes ive been through....Andrew is the one i saw alot of fights in....but i saw 2 fights over gas in Deltona after the 3 hurricanes hit Florida a couple summers ago

When there's news that a hurricane is on the way we're probably just going to fly to Chicago, New York, or Hawaii...

And if we can't get a flight out we'll just stay with family in Fort Lauderdale... Ugghhh

I've been through quite a few hurricanes for four years I was in Ft. Lauderdale, my question was directly answered when a poster said that Brickell Key is evacuated with every hurricane.

Thanks for your concern though

yeah hurricanes never kill anyone....and neither does the aftermath

Everyone will be fine when there are looters trying to steal your generator or some water from your house or your valuables.....you'll be just dandy
