I have noticed that so many people down here in Florida have tattoos. I have even seen women with tattoos on their legs. Men have not just one but all over. Is it a cultural thing?

No its called stupid. Can't wait till there 70 with that hanging off their body. I especially love the ones across the chests.
And before anyone bashes me, I have 3 tattoos. All tasteful and in hidden spots. Not some butterfly rose crap

It is a trend and not only in Miami, but you see it more here because of tourist than sport them.

It's a personal preference. Lots of ppl have them - lots don't. Am not a fan of them but 2 of my children (adults) have them (one got his when he was in the military and the other got hers while in college). Neither tattoo is very visible. It's not for me alth. I wouldn't have minded a smallish one yrs ago but at this point, it's not a priority, that's for sure. To each his own.

I can tell you this now living in Denver there are people with tattoos all over their bodies. Guys and girls. I mean completely covered from neck to the hands and I'm sure all over their legs. So unattractive on females.

Tattoos are sexy. As long as it's not some, "I got this tattoo when I was drunk during rush-week, crap on the lower back."

I don't think it's a Miami thing. It's funny how tattoos used to be rebellious and unique and against the norm and now they have become just what they never wanted to be - trendy and mainstream. Grandma's have them. I think it's hilarious. Unmarked skin is unique and going against the trends now.

Well, part of it is that in Florida, more skin is exposed than in many parts of the USA. So you're seeing parts of the body that you might not see as much of in other places... people up north may very well have tattoos; you just don't get as much opportunity to view them!

Coming from the chilly (in more ways than one!) northeast has led me to believe that those in Florida tend to be more laid back and take themselves less seriously than some in other areas. Also, there are a lot of entrepreneurs and business owners here... probably because if you can live and work from wherever you want, Florida is a popular place to hightail it to! If you don't have to worry about getting a typical job, you might be more likely to feel free to express yourself without giving undue concern to what others might think.

But yes, I think that tattoos are becoming more and more mainstream. I am pretty conservative in the way I dress, and I have a small one on my wrist. While I wouldn't prefer to cover my body with art, I have no problem with those who do. I will probably get one or two more small tattoos that are meaningful to me at some point. (I do own my own business, in case anyone here wants to tell me that they wouldn't hire me. )
