I have been told the smartest way to the bahamas is by plane out of Ft Lauderdale. Unfortunately the people coming to visit me have zero money, and wont want to dish out $150+ for airfare. Is there another way to get to the bahamas in a reasonable speed that would be significantly cheaper?

Thank you.

There are fast passenger ferries that go back and forth from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas. But their going to cost you between $100-$150.

Yep exactly.
There are some ferries but the only two islands even close enough that it would be worth taking a ferry is Grand Bahama and Bimini. Bimini is fairly expensive place, small remote island but only 60miles away. They just opened up a new small upscale resort and casino. Grand Bahamas is like what Reno is to Nevada. But getting there is not that cheap.

Check out Silver Airways website though. I recently got an e-mail from them with some fairly cheap fairs to some of the Bahahmian Islands. But airplane is the way to go. Much much quicker and price is not much more if it is more.

There are some cheap $99 one night cruise deals to Grand Bahama, I think the ship leaves from Palm Beach.
