We would like to take a family vacay the 2nd week of September to Florida. How is the weather during that time? Too rainy? We would like to get some sunshine and be able to swim in warm water. Also, what areas do you consider more family friendly as we will have my one year old in tow.

Weather is great during that time. Rain is as normal, either a rain storm will move through or not. With the exception of the rare, but possible hurricane/tropical storm, September is a great time.

As for family friendly beaches, not sure, I consider them all great for families. But a good place is Crandon Park and Bill Baggs park on Key Biscayne, they are nice, quiet, and away from the "party" that can be found on Miami Beach, but Miami Beach in my opinion is great for families also.

september is miami's second most likely month to get hit by a hurricane after october also it is the rainest month averageing 10 inches of rain, so expect storms and rain. temperture wise it's hot with temps in the upper 80s and waters temps are warm to hot with temps in the mid 80s. However don't let the bad weather put the trip in doubt there are normally a few good days mixed in.

Get trip insurance or speak to the hotel in case of storm. Also September is the cheapest month hotel wise, so you should be able to find great deals.

September is the peak of hurricane season. September 15 being the peak hurricane day. September is hot and humid, with the chance of afternoon thunderstorms. I think in September as its probably one of the least busiest months because of the hurricane threat, south beach would be fine with a baby. There are plenty of things to walk to from many of the hotels. You could stay in North Miami Beach as well but there are less things to walk to. Key Biscayne is another idea with the Ritz if you want to sit by the pool or just go to the beach.

Make sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated!

Weather is alright. If you want warm it will certainly be plenty warm. You may get some thunderstorms for part of some of the days or even part of everyday but usually half of the day is sunny and clear. However as others have said September is big time Hurricane time. Even just a little tropical storm will take a day or two away from doing anything outdoors. So I also suggest if you plan a trip at that time to get trip insurance.

Weather is not bad near the beaches in August and September, since most afternoon thunderstorms tend to be inland. Key Biscayne, Sunny Isles Beach and Hollywood beach are some more family-oriented alternatives compared to Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale Beach. Plenty of vacation rental condos.

Sunny Isles must have gotten its name for a reason. It is often nice and sunny in Sunny Isles while it is thundering and pouring everywhere else.

BTW, you can always check the current Sunny Isles weather for yourself

As long as you stay at a hotel or motel that is a block of less from the beach you should be fine, it could be nice out and there could be a few dark clouds and it starts raining, so you go to your room and half an hour later it will be nice again.
