I imagine the French know something about culture and quality of life...
They sure know how to party in South Beach and shop at Aventura mall...

Are you sure it's not just a fad? How long has Miami been a world class city?

Well, vacationers do go to resorts. I was thinking in terms of quality of life for the people who live there.

I think world class could be define by the number of international routes that serves a city. Also the ability to move goods and people quickly, and what culture influence does a particular city have in the world's eyes. I think some people consider world class cities to be fast paced, but also full of rude people.

I tried to find a definition for "world class city" and found nothing concrete. This tells me, such a designation is very subjective.

When you're in Times Square or at the London Eye, you know you're in a world class city. You just know.

It is not about a definition but the qualifications it needs to meet to be a world-class city, while most cities don't meet this criteria there are levels they can be grouped in to and found Miami to be a beta-class, our population is to small, however growing.

What you provided does not describe "World Class Cities". What you provided does the following:

Quote:
The world according to GaWC is a city-centred world of flows in contrast to the more familiar state-centred world of boundaries.

Cities are assessed in terms of their advanced producer services using the interlocking network model (see GaWC Research Bulletin 23). Indirect measures of flows are derived to compute a city's network connectivity – this measures a city's integration into the world city network.

The connectivity measures are used to classify cities into levels of world city network integration. These levels are interpreted as follows:

alpha++ cities In all analyses, London and New York stand out as clearly more integrated than all other cities and constitute their own high level of integration

alpha+ cities Other highly integrated cities that complement London and New York , largely filling in advanced service needs for the Pacific Asia

alpha & alpha- cities Very important world cities that link major economic regions and states into the world economy

All beta level cities These are important world cities that are instrumental in linking their region or state into the world economy

All gamma level cities These can be world cities linking smaller regions or states into the world economy, or important world cities whose major global capacity is not in advanced producer services

Cities with sufficiency of services These are cities that are not world cities as defined here but they have sufficient services so as not to be overtly dependent on world cities. Two specialised categories of city are common at this level of integration: smaller capital cities, and traditional centres of manufacturing regions
The above was taken from the city of the organization that came up with the "alpha, beta etc rating" link

This has to do with economic indicators and how cities around the world are integrated economically.

As for "definition", of course there has to be a definition of what a World Class City is, other wise the term would have no meaning. Or it would be subjective term which varied definitions depending on who you are speaking with, and as such there would be no real way to determine what a world class city is definitively.

Miami is a long way off from being a world-class city as it is the youngest big city in this country which is young in itself compared to foreign countries such as European and Asian countries cities.
