Cutler Bay aka Cutler Ridge is, in general, a bad area. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Plus, traffic during rush hour is abominable.

Why would anyone want to commute to Westchester? It's just a non-descript suburb with some strip malls, banks and medical offices.

Cutler Bay has nice new areas, but they might be out of the OP's price range.

Let us know what housing range you are in and I can recommend an area closer to West Chester.

Looking to rent for now and would like to stay under $2000. Can go higher if it's really worth it! We would like to buy something within the next 1-2 years and would like stay below $700k. What areas would you recommend to rent now. My wife will work around sw 27th ave and I'll work in westchester. We have a dog, so will need to rent a home with a backyard. A 2bed/2bath will do. Thanks!

I am familiar with the commute. I at one point would commute from Kendall all the way to North Miami on a daily basis....not fun . It all depends on what time you commute. Rule of thumb in Miami , morning time usually traffic is headed towards downtown from all directions and afternoon hours it is going away from downtown ( US-1 SB @ 5pm ....horrible !). So yea ...basically it depends at what time you go but you can find side streets that can be faster than taking major thoroughways and beat the traffic. Neither location is near downtown so you'll be OK. Cutler Bay is not a bad area. It is primarily African American families living here but it is not really a bad place to live. Like in ANY major city, you must take precautions on what you do and how you do it . This is a fast growing area of Miami-Dade and the area near Southland Mall is going to go through some major changes....think Downtown Kendall...yup

I moved from close to Westchester to S Miami heights and used to use 117th ave to get back and forth to my old neighborhood. It runs parrallel to the homestead extension of the expressway. I dont know what either of these roads look like during rush hour today and it seems the ewpressway would be a toll road

Just thought it would be a good idea to live in Westchester if that is where you will work. I could not understand why you would want to live in cutler ridge instead of in Westchester.

You know I mostly stay away from the Miami section since my house sold back in April (thank goodness),but I grew up in Cutler Bay and you guys are giving it a bad rap.It is a working middle class area,I never felt unsafe there, some sections of it are betters than others true....but mostly black?,where do you come up with that? Most of my neighbors were retired whites, some hispanics and a couple Jamaicans.Bwtween Franjo road toward Old Cutler is a decent middle class hood.

The bad parts of Cutler Bay are on the borders, close to Goulds, and west of U.S1.There are some nice houses and people in Cutler Bay,I liked it better than Kendall that's for sure.

I swear, some of you act like anything less than Pinecrest,Coconut Grove or off of Old Cutler is ghetto.

On that note, leaving Dade county entirely was the best thing I have done, haven traveled around now and where I'm at now....there are better places than Miami by a long shot.I do miss Cuban food though, and Jamaican patties.
