Default What to do with the Orange Bowl site

As a Miami native, I believe the Orange Bowl is a part of American History to be preserved just like the Rose Bowl. I feel the city of Miami should tear down the current stadium since it is obsolete and build a new Orange Bowl with a super large multi-level parking lot built on the current parking lot connected to the stadium to accomodate the fans with multiple exit sites so we no longer need to park on people's lawns. Marlins Stadium is very important to keep the team in south Florida but it could be built out near Crome Avenue or down in Homestead but keep the Orange Bowl as an integral part of American History and take some pride in Miami's heritage. We all know we have paid taxes for crazier things than this one. Your thoughts?

I agree that it is a big part of history down in Miami and in Football in general...I also think they should tear it down and build a new one that looks similar to the present Orange Bowl but with some new features

I think the neighborhood is lousy and there's not enough parking. If they tear it down there will be no history! The problem is that if they spend $$$ on the stadium who will use it? If a suitable tenant or tenants can be found, a rebuild could make sense. They would have to save a significant part of the current stadium to incorporate in the new one, that's not going to happen. At the very least they should have an "open house" like a U-pick junkyard where people can go in and buy stuff from the current stadium before demolition.

There is not enough space there for a new one. And if it's denolished, I don't know what else could be built there because of the area; not attractive for living nor business. Maybe a walmart supercenter?

As for the Marlins stadium, yeah the city should build a new one for them. In my opinion, the new one should be built over a new artificial island on Biscayne Bay, with wide highways coming off I-95 by air, and more arteries from Mc Arthur Causeway. The island of course must be built with enough space for massive parking buildings and extra space for developments in 40-50 years.

I'm sorry I forgot this is the republic of miami...

I understand your feelings for the stadium but your ideas just don't add up.Why would you build a new stadium in that location, who's going to use it?There's not enough parking there even with a parking garage. Also a parking garage just doesn't say football to me.When I went to a Yankees game in NY I ended up parking in a garage and it basically took almost 2 HOURS to get out of there, and that's with 35,000 people, football games draw twice that many. And you want to save the Marlins from moving and you want to put them where,Homestead???If they're drawing 12,000-15,000 a game now how much would they draw in Homestead?4,000.Even if they end up building a stadium for the Marlins on that site, they better find a way to put a metrorail stop there or else,I couldn't imagine having 81 games a year there with the parking situation.
