Where my mom lives those idiots at MDX tore out the perfectly good bridge railings and at a cost of over a million replaced them with lower quality versions without expanding the bridge one inch. Incredible stupidity enabled by endless toll revenue.

Was it that wire stuff? I don't like that stuff. I've seen it slingshot cars across the road.

No it was the concrete and aluminum railings that were stronger than what they use today. You can still see some of the old stuff as the 874 connects to the turnpike, and there is still some of it on the turnpike. The new concrete is slip formed and cracks in a year, and over time absorbs water and causes the concrete to crack and fail. Very low quality and the old bridge was weakened when the cut off and jackhammered the old work. A potential death trap in 20 years.

I like the old concrete and steel as well and know what you are talking about with the new pre-fab stuff, which is junk for the most part.

The cable wire stuff is 'new' and replaced the steel railings or was put in alongside the turnpike where nothing but a canal was. After several drowning deaths, they finally at least added that. So I guess it is better than nothing.
