Moving From New Haven, Ct To North Miami
Hi I currently live in New Haven, CT but am transfering to North Miami in the beginning of Jan. All I keep reading in the threads are high crime. I am 26 years old and come from the "inner city" of New Haven so I know what the "streets " are like. I work for comcast so I have a good job and will be moving to Miami alone. all I really want to know is if crime is really all that bad in Miami (random) or is it that people who did not grow up in these kind of environments over reacting to crime situations that "normally" go down in the "hood".

Comcast? That's good, my connection keeps dropping every other day, please fix it!
North Miami isn't that good to be honest and don't even bother checking out Opa Locka or anything else West of I-95 in that area.
Have a look at North Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach or Aventura.

CT to Miami
I moved from Meriden, CT down to North Miami 10 years ago. I stayed there about 4 months before I moved to Hollywood, FL(Broward County). If you end up in Sunny Isles or Aventura then you'll be fine but there you're looking at spending big time for a condo. All high rises not many Single Family Homes. I lived in hollywood for 7years and then Cooper City(just west of Hollywood) for the last 3. Both of those were good areas, Cooper CIty was great.
But we moved back to CT this past summer as crime and the cost of living have gotten completely out of control down there. Never would've thought I'd move back to CT for more affordable housing . And not to mention insurance and property taxes are more outrageous than ever. And every other week cops getting killed and all the other criminal activity down there.
I wish you luck down there but if it's close enough for your job I would recommend looking in Broward County for housing. Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Cooper City, Davie are all nice areas close to N. Miami.

Although it's not all bad...I would not suggest North Miami. Too many parts are seedy. Opt for North Miami Beach....particularly the Skylake area (rentals and condos are there). If you can afford it, Aventura and Sunny Isles (although those areas are out of my price range...and I make around 35K per year so....)

I was born and raised in New Haven, close to SCSC. Went to HS at Cheshire Academy. Lots of family in Meriden/New Haven. Moved in 1980 to Fla with my mom after my dad died. Ended up in North Miami in 1982 when it was an okay area. Got married in 1985 moved to Pembroke Pines until 1992 then Cooper City. Moved last year to metro Atlanta.
I would definately look away from the North Miami area and into Broward.

I'd have to agree with Miss Shona & ready2move. North Miami Beach near Skylake has a lot of condos, and Greynolds Park is a beautiful old park nearby. Aventura is busy, busy, busy, but lots of condos. There is a lot of variety in housing and prices in Pembroke Pines. The commute would take you about 30 minutes. Cooper City is nice, but not much regarding rentals, you would be renting something from a private owner here. By the way, there is a comcast location in Davie, as well. And condos, townhouses so close, you could walk to work.

Come on down...I'm sure North Miami isn't nearly as bad as New Haven CT.....afterall Miami in located in the South which will never compete with the ghettos up north as far as being scarry looking....Sorry guys just some sarcasm.....LOL

I was looking at an apartment at 13801 NE 3rd ct near 135 is this an ok area? My job would be located at 18601 NE 2nd ave. This apartment that I'm looking at isn't but ten minutes awy from my job! Like I said before I grew up in Newhallville in new haven, CT one of the worse neighborhoods in New Haven so I know how to avoid certain situations.

I know the place you are talking about. It's a condo conversion and the rental prices are affordable, but I would suggest looking like someone else said around the SKYLAKE area. You'd be much closer to comcast from there. Plus it's a nicer looking area.

Just because you've lived in a bad area before doesn't mean you have to live in a bad area somewhere else if there are much nicer areas close by that you can afford
By the way, couldn't finish a single game on Xbox live yesterday. Thanks to comcast
