I hear the DC and Miami comparisons so often...but let me tell you, there is no comparison. Yes, if you live in SE DC there is crime. But if you live in Dupont, Bethesda, Columbia, etc, there is not crime. The "bad areas" are truly where things are bad. And the good areas are...well, good. A micro example: if you live in SE DC, they won't deliver pizza to you and the customer service, and pizza itself, suck. But in Columbia, the pizza is there in 10 min, customer service is great, and the pizza is awesome.
The big difference with Miami is that there is crime/disorganization in the *nice* areas (Miami Beach). It seems like there is no safe haven.

I don't know about all of that. I lived in DC as well and I will tell you that there is plenty of crime that goes on in the "nicer" areas in DC. I lived in Shaw area of DC and Adams Morgan and let me tell you there is crime everywhere in DC maybe just a bit less crime in certain areas. Just look at the local neiborhood papers and you see the daily crime incidents in these good areas, so just like Miami there isn't a safe haven.

[quote=Daniel_T;2264445]I keep hearing from people I know who have lived in Miami that it is a disgusting trashy place with no character and is filled with crime. The other night I saw a presentation on CNN and they were talking about (I believe the Liberty City area) and how you can't go out at night because the crime is so high and how it's affecting Miami.
I guess in Liberty City they even let the traffic lights flash yellow so you don't have to stop (to prevent carjacking). Is it like that all over Miami? What is the real scoop?
Yes it is true, maybe not unsafe everywhere but rude and ignorant everywhere Moderator cut: racists remarks/insults are not allowed

Good thinking , I lived here for 2 years the biggest mistake in my life.
Going downhill I wish it's all flat and when you see a hill that means that they stuffed it with ****.

VERY SMART CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In case you did not read/heard the news, most legal residents are LEAVING Miami, being replaced by immigrants (both legal and illegal) from Central/South America & Mexico, NONE of which speak English. I have no problem with immigration, but here it has overtaken the area where it is now impossible to live like an American. ON top of that, you pay property taxes through the roof to educate and provide medical care for all those immigrants who have never paid a dime in taxes (and I am a democrat). Miami is 90% of the way into becoming a third world country, that IS A FACT.

The federal government is responsible for the gross disregard for border security as well as the deterioration of our soceity that is caused by rampant immigration to immigrant ghettos. Ghettos hinder assimilation and create a situation of 'net taking' instead of 'net giving.' If we in Miami can't even uplift some of our own Americans out of poverty, mainly the African American areas, why are we allowing more 'net takers' to live within our borders (both in Miami-Dade and the U.S.?
