You don't stand corrected. That data is almost 10 years old. Not saying things look great in Miami, I'm more picking on you lol as this data actually puts your argument in favor (it's worse than what you indicated).

Whoops- I meant I stood corrected by yourself, sir, and was showing the link to show how it is indeed inaccurate.
But Miami is certainly not a Shangri-La, nor is any other place in the U.S. I think we can agree to disagree on Miami's merits, as it were.

It's just that your link was 10 years outdated. I posted another more up to date one that actually put the argument in your favor. And like you said, definitely no shangri-la.

I just think that a lot of people, when they move into Florida for the first time, or really move anywhere for the first time, have all these rosy expectations that it is going to be Paradise for everyone, which doesn't exist ANYWHERE in the world, much less Florida. Florida is just a place like any other place. Sure it's unique and great, but it has its problems. Heck I am from Chicago and when I moved out to Wisconsin I thought it was gonna be great. And for the most part, it is, but there are definitely things I miss. C'est la vie. And even when I was on vacation in places like Marco or the Keys, I saw the squalor and homelessness and people being priced out of the state..not a happy picture.
Of course I am an out-of-towner, so anything I say will be viewed in that light, but I think the best plan for Florida's future would be to create jobs in Alternative Energy (especially tidal energy) as it is so close to the sea and the sun and the oil will all dry out soon..anyways Peace.

such a shame. I want to come to Miami so bad, but all this negative info. Almost all 13 pages of it is bothersome.

Miami has a lot of problems but 13 pages of (largely, but there are some realistic and objective posts mixed in there) emotionally unstable losers should not stop you from fulfilling your own personal desire. If you really hate it that bad when you got here, you can always move back, and if you can't move back/get stuck down here, you could at least try another county. Miami is not for the faint of heart, but if you feel like you can handle it, you may love it. The only way to know is try it out yourself.
Now, I will tell you that the city of Miami is hell. If you have ever been to Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland or a city like that the type of poverty and problems will seem very familiar. Yes, it is a little "third world", but it isn't the only city in America like that. It is one of the few Hispanic majority cities so a lot of people might throw the "third world" name around, but the city is not something above and beyond the WORST of a US city. Like I said, it's still among the worst, but it's not truly "third world".
Once you go outside of the city of Miami, you have gritty areas that aren't really that dangerous, but gritty nonetheless like Hialeah, Sweetwater, Westchester, etc. These areas have an extremely Latin American feel to them, but are mostly working class and not atrociously poor. You also have other pockets of poverty, like Florida City, (city of) Miami Gardens, city of Homestead, etc. The rest of it is not THAT different from other cities or atrociously dangerous. Would I live in Dade County? Personally, no. But for a certain type of person, it can definitely work.

I guess in Liberty City they even let the traffic lights flash yellow so you don't have to stop (to prevent carjacking). Is it like that all over Miami? What is the real scoop?

I Like the 'pockets of poverty' analogy. I have on numerous occasions tried to convey the same idea. I drove through one of these pockets today (Sweetwater). Nowhere else in the country except Miami will you see so many luxury autos in these 'pockets of poverty.' I saw a Bentley, a Ferrari, and about ten thousand Mercedes while driving south on 107th ave from 836. What causes this???? Drug Money???? Overzealous loans???? Maybe they live in Coral Gables and are driving home from work? Yea right.

Areas like Hialeah and Sweetwater look slum-esque but the homes there are overpriced for what you get
