Not to mention, I've been told by people I have met from Miami that the police department is one of the most corrupt out there.

The Miami Police Dept was already investigated by the FBI and they have been cleared, they found nothing they were actually found to be more efficie\ant than average.
And about this other guy theres no discussion to what it is. Miami has double the population of Orlando so of course Miami will have more crime, per capita is defining the chances of crime occuring so in a way leveling out how dangerous a city is, point being Orlando is more dangerous. BTW those rape figures for Orlando and what its size is are quite alarming.
Hialeah for example is a city with comparable population to Orlando, and there Orlando is far more dangerous.

It appears the FBI spent only 2 days auditing around 1,000 911 calls, and made sure those calls it screened were sent correctly to the FBI. Hardly a thorough investigation in my opinion.
The FDLE started their own investigation last year with this matter, and it is still ongoing. We have yet to see what this investigation yields.
The police chief already admitted he violated state ethic laws in an unrelated matter regarding the lexus incident. That sets the undertone for him being dishonest in my eyes.

Orlando may have higher crime overall but miami has neighborhoods that are much more dangerous like opa locka is far worse then any area in Orlando.
I feel safer driving around Orlando then Miami.

The trick to avoid crime and violence in Miami, is to now live in Miami proper!!! That's right, when people on TV show you "Miami" what they are really showing you is Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove. Those are the only places you want to live down here, the rest is just a ghetto swamp!!!

There are hidden gems everywhere. Don't generalize like that, you sound like a 16 year old tourist.

They're not really hidden the whole area can more easily be generalized as normal, middle/high, working class. Only some certian spots are truly horrible.

It is that Bad!!
I lived in Miami Beach for 3 years from 2001-2004 and I can tell you it is that bad. I have lived in many large cities and Miami is by far the most dangerous bar none. Even in the so called good areas ( I lived one block from Lincoln Road ). Just drive around. Their are more bars on the windows of houses than any other city in the US I have seen. Bars on windows = Cost to buy and install. Why would tens of thousands of people feel it necessary to spend a-lot of $$ to put ugly bars on their windows. Drugs, poverty, corruption and illiteracy all add fuel to the fire. I know some will argue stats with me on this but I don't care what the stats say it is what it is.
My personal experiences were having someone shoot through the lobby of my apartment complex and late one night walking home from a movie a guy tried to steal my girlfriends purse and when she did not let go he picked her up and tried to run off with my girlfriend purse attached. Crazy but true. The 2nd place I lived in had a drug dealer living on the first floor. Fun stuff
I loved all the things to do in Miami but finally left for a safer city.

I guess in Liberty City they even let the traffic lights flash yellow so you don't have to stop (to prevent carjacking). Is it like that all over Miami? What is the real scoop?

Miami west of I-95 is not very picturesque and has very little character in MY opinion. East of I-95 has far more character and history in my opinion. As for crime, yeah its there but its also in every major city across America. You can also expect crime to rise as the economy worsens (it will worsen).
You should come visit and spend some time. Check out the historic areas and I think you will find it to be very nice.

Chickens
HAHA there is a rooster that lives in my condo complex.... he hangs out at the pool and i see him pecking at the pavement for food every morning.
I moved to Miami three years ago.... i am ready to leave.... i am tired of the rudeness among other things. I could write a book about it, but i will leave it be....

Thanks for the comparison of prices between Weston and Miami.
The confusion comes from the nomenclature: Miami and Miami-Dade ounty.
Here's a map of Miami city limits:
Image:Miami.gif - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Notice it includes Liberty City and Little Havana.
Notice all of the "Miami" it does not include.
The rich parts of Miami seceded long ago and incorporated into their own municipalities.
Key Biscayne, Kendal, Doral and about a dozen other cities formerly part of "Miami" are now no longer, leaving Miami pretty damn poor.
With the exception of "Coconut Grove" which is still part of Miami, funny story, they wanted to incorporate but leave the black area to Miami!
Miami proper (within the strict city limits) is one of the poorest cities in the U.S.
That's the problem and the confusion.

If rudeness were a crime half of Miami would be serving 5 years in Jail. If Speaking Spanish was an arrestable crime in Miami, punishable by long jail sentences, the 62% of people in Miami who speak Spanish at home would still continue speak it.
Most of these people come from cultures that respect force, aggression, guns and tanks (ie mucho macho dictators). I would laugh at the same toothless laws in the U.S. that they currently do if I had escaped from one of the countries Miami's populace came from...
