Are you sure it was the Dolphin since it is nowhere near Liberty City?

Why you might want to live in Miami
First of all Bale002 knows what he is talking about!
Miami (like any other place has good and bad things) you just have to visit and see if it is the place for you.
Some quick facts:
Good: weather, multi-cultural, lots of activities (for all age groups), good Universities (Private: University of Miami), State: FIU (best accounting program), great NIGHT live, great restaurants, great beaches, etc.
Bad:
-In my opinion the worst thing is actually traffic
-you will get rude people pretty often.
-I am cuban, and obviously speak spanish, however, you will encounter spanish speaking people really often and I could understand how that could be annoying to someone that doesn't speak the language.- If you are open minded and want to learn Spanish though-- it could be a good thing!
-Need a car to go anywhere. (so consider that if you are a student and can't afford a car)
-Salaries vs. cost of living here.....NOT SO GOOD !
I would suggest for you to look up "University of Florida" it is approximately 5.5 hrs. away from Miami, however it is a great University (not just b/c i went there ) and it is an affordable town to live in.
You could come and party in Miami every once in a while, after all, if you are a student the Miami the Party atmosphere might even be a bit of a distraction for you - Good Luck
We are in our mid-30's (leaving Miami now because we have a 16 month old baby) Any suggestions from Bale002 or anyone else!!- We are looking for a family oriented state, however, do not want a huge culture shock.

I agree, I think some posters just over do the dngerous part of Miami. I was there not to long ago and what I saw around Liberty city was what you see in many rough parts of cities. To tell you the truth there were a couple of times were I did get nervous but nothing crazy. Miami Reminds me of Corpus Christi for some reason.

LOLOLOLOL!!!
You must be only referring to the Miami area. And if not, you need to get out more. Being mostly hispanic and Cuban "always" makes it "good and "clean"??? What kinda drug-laced cigars have you been smokin'?
Tell that to folks familiar with the Bronx, Spanish Harlem, parts of Queens, the barrios of Chicago, Houston or Los Angeles then.
I don't even think your fellow hispanics would agree with you.

This is the only place where, at my place of work in the parking garage, my car window was smashed in and I was robbed. The officer that did my police report told me to get out of Miami if possible, and that in that area there is a homocide everyday. They also kill so many cops here, I have never seen that anywhere else. Yes, it is a third world country. People that have only lived here and no place else are desentisized to the crime. People don't care about anything here, they don't obey the traffic laws, I could go on and on. It's dirty, way too hot, buggy, swampy. This comes from a person who can compare it to other places. Do a crime rate search, you will see. Good luck to you. Also, I worked in DC, LA, Detroit and Flint, MI. I felt much safer in those places.
Sincerely,
Traci

WHAT!
I've lived in Miami, L.A., Denver, Cleveland and currently Chicago. I've even lived over seas, trust every city especially major cities have projects. Liberty City-Overtown and Pork'n beans ain't the best places to sight see. but the beach, the Grove, the Keys, the tropical settings, the beautiful people, the energy, the multiple cultures and short distance to all the best Islands MORE than makes up for it.

Some of the upsacle tourist zones and older established neighborhoods are clean but Miami in general is pretty yuck.
it has it's good and bad places. Trick is to learn where they are (and oddly enough some of the best bits of Miami are burried in places the general public see as hell holes). And if you have kids check out the private schools or home school as dade schools pretty much suck.

I agree with Aflyguy cause if really ever been to a Hispanic impoverish stricken area then you will notice the many disturbing infrastructure the houses have some about to fall which is just sad. I think it's the culture shock that hits people the hardest when the pass these areas.
