Of course some people have to hate on Miami when the thread clearly states it's what you love about Florida. Miami generates millions of dollars in tourism a year for the state. And if it weren't for Miami, Florida wouldn't get to see the Super Bowl as often as it does since the NFL loves having it in Miami.
Miami hosts the professional tennis tournament in Key Biscayne (Formerly known as the Lipton). Miami also is the largest cruise ship port in the country and one of the largest in the world. (Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Carribean). Without Miami, Orlando would also lose alot of money since tourist come here first then drive up to Disney.
I couldn't disagree more with this poster. And obviously the tourists disagree as well since Miami is one of the world's largest tourist destinations.

I moved to Texas as of 5 months ago and to my surprise, did not get home sick. I lived in Miami for over 30 years and was able to witness the changes. The only things I miss is the food, cuban cofee and the fine ladies. Don't get me wrong, there are pretty ladies in Texas. Just the lack of Miami booty is what I find disappointing, lol.
I definitely miss my old time friends.

It makes me a bit sad that this forum can sometimes be so harsh. Certainly not for the relocating "faint" of heart. If I wasn't so stubborn, I may have already changed my mind about relocating
C'mon people! Don't discourage people like me (real buyers). We are the ones to buy you out of what you consider hell, and allow you to move to your heaven elsewhere!

Amen! What is one man's hell is another man's heaven.
I LOVE South Beach. There's no other place like it in the US. It's urban, tropical, international, historical and constantly reinventing itself. The energy is infectious and the things to do are unlimited. Special events bring a diversity of crowds throughout the ever lengthening "season". That's one of the things that I love about Florida.

Elvi-for some reason unbeknownst to me these threads attract people that are un-happy in Miami. Come visit and enjoy the good things this area has to offer. Make an educated decision and you sound like the kind of person that sees the glass half-full anyway. As I'm typing this it's 75 degrees and sunny.

What do I still love about this crazy place?
The weather from November through April. Sunrise in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, sunset in Key West. The inland waterways and old-growth tropical foliage I see on my drive to work through Fort Lauderdale's older neighborhoods. The getaways within a few hours' drive (Keys, Marco Island, Disney, St. Augustine). My favorite Italian, Mexican and Thai restaurants. The Dolphins, Marlins, Heat, Panthers and 'Canes (sure, most of these teams are losers now, but at least they're OUR losers).
Most of all, my wife, who has never lived anyplace else -- our house is five minutes away from the house she grew up in.
Yes, life can be difficult and stressful here, but I will save my thoughts on that subject for other times and places out of respect to the original poster.

What do I like?
- The weather. Yes it's hot as hell in summer, but at least it's not grey and cold from october throughout april like where I grew up.
- Universal, Busch Gardens. I love amusement parks and it's only a three hour drive to B&M heaven.
- The nightlife, eventhough I'm not a fan of "clubbing on South Beach". There's so much going on here.
- The Florida Panthers. Sure, I'd rather go watch the Colorado Avalanche in a sold out Pepsi Center, but at least I don't have to watch the Buffalo Sabres.
- Crandon Park on Key Biscayne.
- Driving down US1 to Key West.
- South Florida architecture. At least this area has some kind of style unlike other major cities in the US (Dallas anyone? urgh...)
I came here about 10 months ago and for now I'm really enjoying Miami. I'm not gonna stay here forever though, because there's a lot more places that I'd love to check out. So far no place really feels like home for me. I don't mind not having my family around. Maybe the road is my home, i don't know

Mexican? Where? Being a California transplant I thought SE Florida was devoid of good Mexican restaurants. I miss having taco trucks everywhere

What I like most about Miami?...
1) the weather - yes, it gets hot and humid in the summer, but I love the storms
2) the beach! - living 10 minutes from it is a real treat
3) gardening - originally from a cold place, I used to spend the winters waiting to get some greenery outside, but here, it is a year-round delight
4) the everglades - any time you want to get away from city madness just take 41 west and step back in time!
5) the food - ok, compared to other places, ethnic choices are more limited in terms of asian and authentic mexican cuisine, but overall there is a good amount of variety to choose from

The weather it gets hot but you can do summertime things all year. Lots of things to do and places to go.
Alot of different people from all over you can goto one place and do redneck things like mudding and hunting and go other places like Miami beach and party with class.
It`s growing and changing here eventually for the better but transition is always difficult for a place.
Like being able to goto the park down the road and see gators and turtles, birds and other wildlife. Like helping my son catch tree frogs
Thunderstorms they are exciting
The beach.
