I've lived in the Homestead area since 1978. There is a restaurant called Sam's that has very good cornbread. It has been here for many years. There is also a diner in the Royal Palm drugstore at the corner of Krome and Campbell Drive. It has also been here for many years.

I don't remember Sams but it sounds good. Is Shivers still there and if so is it still good? We went there every Saturday night when I was young and I still remember always having to have a BBQ Beef sandwich with crinkle fries, corn on the cob and birch beer. Loved that place and when I finally get to make a trip back home I hope to be able to go there.

Holy sushi...many memories here.

I remembered Pirates, but couldn't remember the actual name. I just remembered the castle on Coral Way. I went to a couple birthday parties there.

Many fond memories of Midway Mall. That's where my grandmother did her shopping. I forgot there was a Castle Park down that way--or are you referring to what became Malibu? There was a Castle Park by FLL but was demolished when 595's construction started.

I once made a trip to Planet Ocean with my mom. I think I was like 6 or 7. Very cool place. The animals from Crandon Park Zoo and Markham Park Zoo all went to Metro Zoo. A long time ago I had a t-shirt that said "Markham Park Zoo."

As of a few years ago, there's still a Lums in Davie. And yes, they still have the hot dogs.

Ahhh yes...Taco Viva with the sauces. I was a "mild" kid. It went all the way from Mild to El Scorcho.

Lionel Playworld...turn that frown upside down!

My mom grew up near Diamonds and I spent quite a bit of time there when I'd be with my grandmother during school holidays. The Pantry Pride she shopped at was across the street. I think she went into a huge depression when they shut down--I guess she'd been shopping there for MANY years.

Loved going to Xtra. I remember when the one in Hialeah opened. My parents would make the trip to the one that was in Oakland Park (we lived in Cooper City) for shopping trips. Obviously they were MUCH happier when the one in Davie opened. I remember Grand Union. That was the first place I ever remember getting freshly ground peanut butter.

I only remember going to the Omni Mall once. I was like 6 years old and rode the carousel.

Ahhh...Six Flags. I think I lived there from the time I was 8 until I was 12. My summer day camp wasn't too far away and provided us season passes that were covered with our camp fees.

I remember the Serpentarium as well. Made several camp trips there too.

I know it's still there, but it's not quite the same as it used to be...Venetian Pool.

Thanks for the stroll down Memory Lane.

There used to be a movie theatre also on Coral Way and 87 Ave where Ross is at now...

Does anyone remember Lionel's Playworld which was crushed by Toys R Us...

I remember the Serpentarium on US1 and I also remember the Crandon Park Zoo on Key Biscayne... How about Planet Ocean on Key Biscayne?? It's not the MAST Academy school... I remember going on so many field trips there...

I do remember LUMS on 8st and 107 ave by FIU... what an awesome restaurant it was when I was a kid, I loved it..

Tropicaire Flea Market/Drive In is now Target/Best Buy...

Let's not forget Castle Park off the Palmetto and Flagler now an apt complex...

Also Mall of the Americas was called and Midway Mall and there was a skating rink across the street (Midway Skating Rink) where I had a ton of bday parties...I think there was one on 87ave and Bird Road as well (Tropical Skating?)...

How about Taco Viva?

Pirates on Coral Way??

The OMNI Mall had a great arcade complex with a merry go round and a movie theatre that I loved going to...

Lila's Restaurant on Coral Way next to JByrons?

Woolworth's in Downtown?

Pantry Pride supermarkets? Xtra Supermarkets? Grand Union Supermarkets?

LOL...

How about Six Flags Atlantis??? The only water park in this area for years... Still never had another come up...

Zayre's in Westchester?

Anyone used to go Diamonds on 57ave and NW 7st to get materials for projects??

OK, that's it... I am tapped out... Hope this helped...

I remember the one that was in Hollywood. It was at the corner of Pembroke Road and 441. When Treasury went out, the space was split between Marshalls and Home Depot. Service Merchandise was at the end. I think the whole thing is a Home Depot now, but don't quote me on that.

I went on every.single.one of those waterslides except for one--the straight down one. Thunderbolt or Thunderball...can't remember the correct name because I knew people who used both names.

I went to the park once with my dad and a poor teenaged girl lost her bikini bottom on that slide.

It was a much smaller place and you had to slide down on these big, unwieldy rubber blue mats because the slides' surfaces were not smooth. Can anyone please confirm?
I don't know if it's the exact one, but I do remember a water slide place at SR 84 and University Drive. It had 3 water slides that went into a pool and then a little ways from that was a Pizza Hut. I don't know if this place had a name though.

WOW...lots of time spent in this place

I remember when getting a score of 150 in skeeball was a major accomplishment.

My dad would take me there on Fridays after I was picked up from aftercare if I had made a perfect score on my weekly spelling tests. He had to stop doing that by the end of my 3rd grade year because I never missed a word. I also went to MANY parties at this place because my school was in Hollywood and many of my classmates lived in Hollywood/Pembroke Pines.

And in the same vein, does anyone remember that huge arcade that was a little farther south on 441? Last I remember there's a car dealer there now.

After Hurricane Andrew, Shivers BBQ was sold! It is still called Shivers but the food is NOT the same! I will never forget the first time I ate there after Andrew ( a year or so). I was sooo disappointed. I used to love their barbecue sauce and cole slaw. The Capri is still on Krome Ave. in Florida City. I think it has been open for around 50 years.
