And now they've recently opened up one in Deerfield Beach. Finally--shorter drive for me to get a BBQ fix. I'm a happy camper.

So that really is his wife and son? Wow! I figured the boy looked a lot like him and could possibly be his but wasn't sure about the woman in the commercial. Now I can tell my other half that we guessed correctly.

I was a Manager of that Store, and I remember the first day we had lottery tickets, the line went out the door all day. Back then, very few places sold tickets, so if you wanted to buy them, you had to expect long lines on Saturdays. We also had S & H green stamps. I live in CLT, NC now, and Lowes foods gives digital green stamps, which you can use to get free food. Pretty cool! You cant buy beer or wine here until noon on Sundays, back in the day at Publix, you couldnt buy either all day on Sunday. I even remember when Publix was closed all day on Sunday. How times change...

If you were the manager of that store, then you surely remember the firefighters from R-23 and L-23 shopping at your store almost daily. The winn dixie across from St.23 just didn't do it for them.

Let's see...some other things I remember about Miami.
The lunch counter at Woolworth's in Midway Mall. When my grandparents would make their weekly trip to the mall, they'd go here for lunch. My sister and I would go with them if we were staying with them that day. This took place into the very early 90s until Woolworth's closed down--it was Mall of the Americas by then. I also remember Walgreens in the mall having a counter. My grandmother was sad to see it close up in there. And then there was the tobacco store. My grandfather would always start to sniff the air when we'd get close by. And in the later years, I always remember how the other drivers would totally ignore the school zone speeding times. I think my grandparents were nearly run over a few times because my grandfather would follow the 15 MPH limit.
An uncle of mine worked for a good 30 years in the previously mentioned Sears on Coral Way. He was in the shipping/receiving department. And that's how I got my first Cabbage Patch Kid. I wanted one for Christmas the year I was 9 and they were still in high demand then. So when the shipment came in, my uncle had the inside scoop and picked one out for me.
There were a few others I was going to comment on but can't remember them at the moment. Guess I should go do some work now.

I do remember a lot of firefighters coming in, but dont know what station they were from. I do remember the monument to the slain FBI agents just down the street from Suniland. They were killed in a shootout in the 80's I believe.

Pirates World
Not quite Miami, but does anyone remember Pirates World? I think it was in Davie. My dad took us there a bunch of times. It had a great little roller coaster called "The Mouse" I think. And a weird little house where everything seemed to defy gravity.
There used to be a Lums in the Grove across the street from Peacock Park. I remember playing shuffleboard and ping pong at the park and then walking across the street for one of those great hot dogs.

Peacock Park in the Grove? Now that is a blast from the past for me. In the mid 80's we used to hang out there on Friday and Saturday nights listening to really loud metal and drinking beer. Too funny.
