I remember Steve's in the grove. Had a friend who worked there who would always give us free food.

Here's one. Does anyone remember in the 80's going to Hidden Lake an old rock quarry in Kendall. We used to party there on weekends and I was curious if developers ever built up there or if kids still go there to drink and get chased off by the cops lol.

I worked at Steve's Ice Cream in the Grove for a brief stint. It would have been around 1985, maybe 1984.

Are the "Yellow Sub" sandwich shops still around? I worked at the Yellow Sub on Bird Rd when I was going to Coral Gables Sr High.

I was in high school at Palmetto when that happened. I was on lunch break on my way to Burger King and they were emergency airlifting the FBI agents who were wounded. Guess all the students at Palmetto and myself were lucky it happen just before lunch break. The shootout happened right next to the drive through Farm store between 124 st just east of US1.

Last time I was down there they had a plaque commemorating the dead agents. There was also a movie made about it. BTW I went to Killian, but dated a Bug. I couldnt let any of my friends know, or I would have been a social outcast.

Does anyone else remember the old Dade county home and hospital? It is located at "Kendall indian hammocks park" facing SW 107 Ave, close to the dump. The historic property contans several facilities now, but it looks like the old service area and hospital face demolition. The buildings have been left to deterriorate and sadly look like they will soon be gone. Nobody except me seems to know that the overgrown building is the oldest building left in Kendall. What a shame they let it go so far downhill. Most likely done on purpose to encourage demolition.

Do you have an idea of how old those buildings are? I am not familiar with Dade county home & hospital.

I was told that it was built in 1937, which may be correct as the walls are wood lath with plaster, which was no longer used after the early 1940's when plasterboard was developed. It shows up on my 1947 topographical map as well.
