Coral Gables was truly "The City Beautiful"

NOW..... I'm gonna cry........
I almost got run over by that tram.
I remember Lionel Play World,
Luria's
Jefferson's at Midway mall
zayre's (that old indoor mall on coral way just closed down)
tropicare flea market (dad used to take me every sunday- afterward, at the food store next to it I'd get an icee & trading cards!)
Best (on us1)
Don Carter (playing street fighter at 12 midnight- loved that place)
bakery center (lots of dates there)
Marsbar in town & country was the best!
kitchen club!
the industry

what else????

Maybe someone already mentioned it.......... too many pages to read back....... remember the Serpentarium.

The OLD Coral Gables Bus Terminal ? I used to ride the bus from there to Miami Beach in the mid-60s.

Coral Gables' Andalusia Bakery and the melt-in-your-mouth Danishes.

The Mexican restaurant named Mexico-Lindo in Coral Gables.

One of my first concerts was there..... John Kay and Steppenwolf!.. Boy... I think that was around 1968 or somewhere around there!......I surely remember them being on a platform on the water and we were just rocking out.
Remember all the fireworks shows they had there?

I bet we rode on the same bus to the beach back then... I used to live in Westchester and all during summer break, we would take the bus to the beach and always loved when we transferred in the CG terminal....
(Naive little girls back then, eh?)

And the Andalusia Bakery......Oh yes...

Jahns? On Miracle Mile???

We used to hit Sambos after a night of partying at Big Daddys, just run across the street!

I remember seeing the opening of A Clockwork Orange at The Gables Theatre (??), and The Exorcist at the Riviera Cinema-I think that was the theatre..... Wasnt it near Fox's Sherron Inn?...

Oh, I can go on and on... I have been gone from Miami for 24 years, and memories are hazy. I lived there from 1954-1984, but was in the south Florida area in Broward and the Keys until 1998.
I have been enjoying this thread... Are there any other ones dedicated strictly to "old Miami?"....

OH YES.. I remember that.... I was living in Miami Springs, right near the Tri story Big Daddys.. Rows and rows of Poinciana trees.

remember Eastern Airlines?

La Bodga on NW 36th street?.. I remember stepping outside from there and seeing the Led Zeppelin tour plane parked at the west end of MIA!

And yes, Spyder... Many times I have spent many hours in Diamonds.... I loved that place!
Anyone remember when the Westward Ho in the Westchester Shopping Plaza caught fire and the pet store next door lost so many animals?.. That was sad.
But I loved the burgers at Westward Ho!

I remember when the Bakery center was just Holsum bakery and No center.. A sad day it was not to drive down U.S. 1 and not smell the bread baking!

Why did they let the Miami Marine Stadium go to hell? That is class "A" concert/convention space. Damn Miami politicians... they always get rid of everything good, and for what??? To appease the South Americans coming in by the Airbus load (as opposed to boat load) who could care less about Miami's history? We can't prostitute our beautiful city like that!

Right on topic! A thread that I thought would be impossible to politicize.
Earlier post, amazing driving on US1 and passing by while the bakery was working.

Andalusia bakery was the best!!! If they never got greedy and expanded in other locations I am sure they would still be in the Gables today.

Does anyone remember the restaurant of US 1 and 98th street call "The Bodega"?

The theater by Fox's was called the Sunset.

I remember waiting on line in 1977 along US 1 to see Star Wars there....
