Stumbled onto this thread looking for an answer ... found my biography. What a great nostalgia trip. I seem to go back a little farther than most of these posts, but they are all familiar. The smell of Holsums on useless one reminded me of being in school at Robt E Lee jhs, pre air conditioning of course, and the smells of Merita bakery and a coffee brewing place off 5th av. Nobody mentioned the Hot Shoppes, the Wheel drive in, Bananas and the old White Castles. Oh yeah, and for you old Stings, Shirleys, Saxons and Titans. Does anyone remenber the Big Daddys on the circle in Miami Springs? It was also known by another name that I, and a couple of friends, can't remember. Any help?

I remember the Hot Shoppe at the intersection of U.S. and Bird Road, on the southeast corner, I think. I was never inside, and then it shut down (around 1970?) and sat there for a while. They had a pretty cool red/orange neon sign.

About what year would that have been? In 1973 I moved to south Florida and lived just 2 blocks north of Dadeland.

I moved to Miami in 1966......... and I didn't learn about Dadeland Mall until around 1967, so I think it was then!!! Of course, it was much, much smaller and had no enclosed dome cover........ you could look up at the sky and feel the weather.
I had just moved from Queens, New York....... and back in those days I had never heard of, or ever seen ..... a MALL!
WOW..... Miami was a fun place back then

Lets see, last time I lived in Miami, about 22 years ago, I worked at a place called Steve's Ice Cream in Coconut Grove, worked at a bookstore/newstand on Commodore for awhile too. Can't recall the name of that place.
As kid growing up in Coconut Grove I remember going to "love-ins" at Peacock Park, riding my bike along the bike path from our home on Poincianna down in to the Grove to eat at Cozzollis Pizza, or going to Lums to get the best hot dog ever.
When I was in highschool I used to go to a roller rink in South Miami or Coral Gables. I can't remember the name. It was just North of US1. Maybe Southland Skate?
I used to go surfing off the South Beach pier, back before South Beach was The Trend spot. It was just surfers, fishermen, usually some guy playing saxophone, and junkies. There was a place called "Coldest Beer On Earth" that totally lived up to its name.

Anyone remember Peaches music store ? There were two , I believe. One in South Miami (now a Canton restaurant) and one on US1 and 138th, which turned into a Specs, which is now an Italian suitplace for men ?
Biscayne Baby's, wow, I remember I wasn't old enough to get in, but they did have one night a week for people under 18. And , of course, Cameo Theatre, I saw the Red Hot Chili Pepper's wayy before they became mainstream.
Wow, this thread is Awesome, and bringing up so many great memories. How about Piper Lanes in Perrine (my parents bowled in a league there, and I spend a many nights with their 'nightcare' program. So much fun!!
And there was a place in Suniland , where you could buy things with stamps you got from groceries or something like that. Anyone remember that ? or the name ?

I used to surf out there too! And there was an Awesome little icee place on Ocean and 1st, the other side of where Penrods, now Nikki Beach was. They had awesome flavors, and you could have ice cream in the middle of the drink. It was yum. I completely forget the name.
