Oh, and of course, what a joy it was to drive down US1 and smell the bread baking at Holsum's. Speaking of Holsum's, they used to have a magnificent Christmas display with all sorts of trains, towns, etc. And A&P on LeJeune Rd, not much of a supermarket, but all I remember is the Spanish bar cake my mom used to buy. What else? Oh, naturally Crandon Park. In the 80s, I'd go to Sunday's on the Bay on the way home from the beach. I will never forget Yumbrella either, which was the precursor to today's food courts. Sometimes I think of moving back to Miami, but I have since visited and it isn't the Miami I knew.

Yes, Sunday's on the Bay, Woolworth's on Miracle Mile (where you could get a great lunch)!. How about Whistler's in (used to be Cutler Ridge Mall, now Southland), they had the BEST!! Hot Fudge Sundaes!!! And there was a place in South Miami (now CVS, adjacent to Sunset Place) where it was a Deli style counter top service, that served great Hamburger Patties, and hot dogs!!

Biscayne Baby's, wow, I remember I wasn't old enough to get in, but they did have one night a week for people under 18. And , of course, Cameo Theatre, I saw the Red Hot Chili Pepper's wayy before they became mainstream.
Wow, this thread is Awesome, and bringing up so many great memories. How about Piper Lanes in Perrine (my parents bowled in a league there, and I spend a many nights with their 'nightcare' program. So much fun!!
And there was a place in Suniland , where you could buy things with stamps you got from groceries or something like that. Anyone remember that ? or the name ?

S & H green stamps, which you could get at Publix. Whats funny is that up here in CLT, the Lowes Foods gives electronic S& H points each time you buy groceries. It is linked to your loyalty card. Every week they have specials that you can use your points for. Very similar to the old school version many years ago.

Does anyone remember the J&J Bar downtown, through the early 70's? (I think it started in the 50's.) It was my uncle's dive bar, and I do mean dive. It was across the street from the courthouse, near what was then the WTVJ-4 studios. His clientele were mostly local alcoholics, randomly interspersed with WTVJ folks and the occasional lawyer.
He spent the end of his life at his house at 40th Terrace and 103rd Ave., right near the guy who owned Frankie's Pizza.

Man............. these threads are really awakening my memories of Miami..
I grew up in the Westchester area, when Westchester Country Club was there. Went to Coral Park before Gloria even came to Miami.
The Pool was in the shape of a W, and there was that mini golf course/driving range on 8th street between 82 nd ave and Galloway.. Oh.. wasnt there a Chevron station at that corner????...many times I had a hot dog at the tiny little food stand while putting....
WOW

Keg South is at Homestead...US1 and...hmmm..memory fails me.

Thank you!! I could not place the name. My great grandma was an avid S&H'r... Lol... That was so fun, you could get some pretty good things with the stamps. That is awesome it's still in works where you reside! I just remember how fun it was going with great grandmom.

Didn't Grand Union have the SSS Blue Stamps, or something? And someone gave out Merchants Green Stamps.

I was on a bowling league at Bird Bowl around 6th or 7th grade in the 70's (we were terrible). When did that area become part of Westchester? Just to the west was Olympia Heights. From my memory, the area of Bird road from Bird Bowl east to Coral Gables had no name. Now Westchester seems to be huge.
