The last mayor was recalled because he gave all of his buddies/ball boys at the police department raises which in turn caused an increase in property taxes when we were going through the worst recession since the great depression. Now the mayor that replaced him is being faced with the same possible fate for doing the opposite. To me this is damned if you do damned if you don't. The reason that I am not completely against the recall effort is because of the simple fact that I am sure this mayor is just as corrupt as the previous ones that we have had. It is the reason behind the recall effort that I find ironic.

Read the link and go figure THIS is why this Mayor should be recalled.

He is doing the EXACT same thing as Alvarez and worse, but he knows how to play the shell game very well and your taxes still went up anyways while the ultra rich and lobbyists got the break on our dime.

Just do me a favor and read the link provided and then let's have a discussion.

I see your point, Carlos Gimenez learned from what happened to Carlos Alvarez and consequently he has a more refined and sneakier approach. We will have to wait until things further develop and continue to unravel to know more.

Recall Gimenez - I have no problem with that. But then what? Another clone takes his place. It was a pretty historical thing that happened when we recalled Alvarez, and for what? Yeah, I'm pretty disgruntled and I have no hope anymore for politics and those who want to be or are politicians at the mayoral level and up.

We really need to repeal the strong mayor rule, because I rather have commissioners per each district that we can individually hold accountable. I know that I hold my local commissioners accountable like Linda Bell who is a disgrace and I called her on it. I also grilled Daniella Cava at the last meeting were Cutler Bay residents got to meet the candidates.

In order to get better government you have NOT back down but to be a pain in the butt and make trouble for those that would rather pander to the big money. yeah I know I am just a little guy but I get involved, research and volunteer when I support someone. I also research ad nausum when someone or a party tries to screw with my family and my community.

I know a lot of folks work and it is a pain to attend public meetings, tune in to the school broad meetings and make appoints to talk to our elected officials but when I complain about the situation at least I know that I have done what I can with my little guy power. I am not saying that you or everyone else on this forums doesn't get involved and I also understand your frustration since we have lived with the threat of lay offs for five years now and ever increasing contributions while we see the shenanigans around us.

As for a replacement, this time around let's vest these folks for proven work and dig in deep for lobby connections and the folks behind the PACs. Too bad that Ed Mac Dogal is running for a chance against Garcia in the senate because that would be a very good replacement.

I happen to like Garcia and Mac Dogal so that one will be a tough one for me.

I have always questioned why the voters voted in favor of the strong mayor, especially with all of the problems that we have had with corruption even before that vote took place. One possibility was low voter turnout (because people just have no hope anymore) and all of Carlos Alvarez's waterboys at the police department and county hall went out and voted for the strong mayor so he would have more power and pay them back with salary increases at the taxpayers expense for a job well done and for being loyal to him and backing him up. Hey, nothing is free you have to give to receive.

Most people are feed up with Lynda Bell and the people that she is linked to but what keeps her alive and in the running is that she is a Republican and is associated with the Tea Party. Some Republicans in her district will still vote for her because of their dislike of the Democratic party. Many on the right also feel that Daniella Levine Cava is a Socialist borderline Commie. I still believe that Daniella Levine Cava will win this election with ease.

MacDougall and Garcia are running for the House of Representatives not the Senate.

You might like MacDougall, probably because he seems to have a clean record and is a good actor but I have been told that he was a disgrace when he was a commissioner in Cutler Bay and continues to be a disgrace as Mayor of Cutler Bay. Everyone at town hall feels this way but no one will speak up because of their jobs and reprisals. He hated the previous town manager which was pretty much low key and finally got rid of him when he became mayor. He brings a lot of favoritism to the table, his buddies do whatever they want in the town when it comes to, zoning, permits, approvals, changes, licenses etc. etc and everyone else has to go through all of the red tape and bureaucracy. That favoritism/leniency started to apply to everyone after he started eyeing a run for Congress which has been in the works for a long time and wanted to further boost his image. I have also been told that he is an a-hole redneck that many americans don't like but they still prefer him because they rather have him than another hispanic that only talks about Cuba and the embargo, he is racist even though he says he has a diverse family (He did not make those choices, it wasn't in his hands he had to accept it and deal with it. Now he is using it to his advantage and politicizing it), drives around in his real estate company car talking bad about everyone he does not like to the residents and business owners, instigating them, adding wood to the fire and creating further problems, divisions, and friction at town hall, and is known to be an alcoholic by many. On top of all of this he does not even live in the area that he wants to represent in Congress, talk about a bunch of crap. He should be running for district 27 instead of district 26, which is where he resides and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen currently represents and resides in. At least she lives in the area in which she represents, same goes for most if not all Representatives in our county.

See this is where we help each other, I talk to the man quite often in a lot of meetings and any insight you might have is not what I have , only being here a year.

I will talk to him since I talk to him quite a bit, I am considered a busy body but with a bite. He seemed like a good guy well, now it's my turn to dig deep. thank you for the heads up.

All candidates running for district 26 are poor choices. Nothing new, nothing to be surprised about.

Carlos Curbelo is the Republican establishments chosen one/puppet, he has been endorsed by Mario Diaz-Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Jeb Bush. He will win the primary because of that simple fact. He has done unscrupulous things at the school board, awarded some contracts that he shouldn't of. I am not exactly sure of the details, it is too much crap from too many people to follow. I can't nor do I have the time to be Ladra, Al Crespo or one of the journalists for the Miami New Times.

Joe Martinez was a police officer and Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Commission. He will be a carbon copy of Carlos Alvarez but in Congress, wonderful. What did he do when he was a county commissioner, the answer is nothing positive and was most certainly part of the problem. He will back all of his waterboys at the police department and will be owned by all of the influential people that have supported him during his political career.

David Rivera is the most professional in how he conducts himself. In other words he is the best actor of the group. It is probably contributed to the fact that he already held the position and is the most experienced and knows how to play the game the best. He has been in Tallahassee and Washington, two of the best acting schools in the nation. He is embroiled in a never ending trail of corruption and is being investigated by the federal government. If he is indicted and found guilty where will that leave us, beside do we want someone with a history like his in Washington, I guess it doesn't really make much of a difference.

Lorenzo Palomares-Starbuck is a political newcomer which means he has no baggage. He has no lobbyist, business owners, politicians or influential people backing him up which is good but it also means that he does not stand a chance and will go nowhere. I have heard that he is a little weird but that is irrelevant even if true since he will not win.

Ed MacDougall I already covered him in my previous post.

Joe Garcia is the incumbent Democrat. That will hurt him in a predominantly Republican district. The reason why he won the last time was because David Rivera was already embroiled in a scandal. He is too liberal for many and wants to lift the embargo against Cuba. A move that does not sit well with the Cuban old timers in his district. He is also in favor of the unpopular Affordable Healthcare Act. His chief-of-staff, communications director, campaign manager and who knows who else were implicated on voter registration fraud. Some if not all resigned and some were even sentenced. He could have very well been behind the entire scandal. He has more baggage but I can't remember it all.

And that folks sums up the candidates and our positive outlook for the future.

I have to give him credit. He has really polished himself, has become a good talker and actor, and is definitely going to be nominated for an academy award along with David Rivera. I also know of more specific situations concerning him but I rather not comment on them since that could possibly divulge some employees and people that know him. Don't think that I am trying to influence you or anyone else. I simply pride myself in being honest and bringing the truth out. I will not sway the election results by this anyways and I feel that this race has been between Joe Garcia and Carlos Curbelo all along. I could be surprised and mistaken but I doubt it.

MacDougall in my opinion does not stand a chance even though he is doing better than I expected and has gained some momentum. He will do good in Monroe County because of their disdain towards hispanics taking over everything but the reality is that most of the population is in Key West and they tend to be very liberal, consistently vote Democrat, really like Joe Garcia and are registered Democrats which means that they cannot vote in the Republican primary to begin with. The core is obviously here in Miami. Most voters here are hispanics which sadly don't research anything and are ill informed. They just vote for the person that has a hispanic last name and is Republican.
