Yes, Miami is very "clique-ish," I have found this to be true. And people have made fun of my Spanish, French, etc., and I just laugh with them.
|
The sad part is the ones laughing are hardly ever fluent in english. Imo it's funny when they laugh cause there's 3½ other languages I can speak and 4 different languages I can read. So in general I use any other language but spanish, just to make a statement and people often get it.
By the way, spaniards laugh at the cubanos' "spanish" just as much as the cubanos might be laughing at yours, you know what I mean...so I rest me case on this one.
BrandonHex, for the most part I agree but moving to north east, not.
Floridians in general though distinguish south east "Florida" from the rest.
Miami is a fun place to be in.. I can take maybe a month at a time and after that feel like I need to get out. So it's a vacation town at it's best, nothing more.
I remember when I first got to Miami I had a chat with someone who's been in Dade since the 50's and he warned me about a ship with no captain no direction. How right was he?
The real question is, is there anything that can be done? Sure but it's a whole a lot of work and we need about 30 years just like it took 30 years to eff up a nice place like Miami.
Maybe.. we should just leave it alone and let it be as it is. As long as the "culture" and "mentality" won't spread out. There are plenty of places in Florida I have chosen over Miami, it's just a matter of time when I too get out.
Miami is a very transit town. The beat will go on forever. People move out as soon as they're hit in the face with reality, others move in with a picture of a paradise in their head...and eventually move out, while new faces come in the game.

another "I hate Miami thread"!.....bravo! so you need a second job to gather up funds? stop whining and actually do something about your situation. I'm sure we can look forward to a 'I hate the Northeast" thread once you move there and start complaining about how high taxes are there as well.

Hate to say this Rob, but I've been happier in other places, so I doubt you'll be hearing that from me. Then again, you must be one of those people who assume that just because someone is unhappy in Miami, they must be miserable people. Sorry to say this, but far more people than you can imagine not only dislike this place, but find it hell (for the reasons I stated and other reasons).
Another "I hate Miami" thread....no. I don't dislike Miami for the sake of it and it actually takes a lot for me to dislike somewhere, but that's what years of living here, dozens of bad experiences and generally unpleasant people generally do to you.

Unless 90% of the population leave and are replaced by better people, nothing is going to change here. This city is rotten from the bottom, all the way up to the top (the mayor himself). You can't fix Miami...some things simply cannot be fixed.

How's that for positive thinking.

I LOVE your positive thinking! It's always so nice to see something
refreshing in here. Ahhhhh, *taking a deep breath*. Did anyone happen to
see the gorgeous sunrise this morning? It was fabulous! Yes, just another
wonderful day in paradise! Life is good.

I hope you find happiness in your new home. Regardless of what other people think you need to be happy. I am happy here (in Weston, not Miami) but I don't think that means everyone will be happy here. Nobody deserves to be miserable. I am glad that you are taking positive steps to make yourself happy.

My uncle up in the northeast tells me that today is cold, gray, and rainy. It will be cold, gray, and rainy for the rest of this week.
It has been either very cold and snowy or cold/gray/rainy every day but 3 for since November 1st! He noted 3 decent days over the entire last 2 months.
Winter just started last weekend so there are at least 3 more months of it.
Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March...cold, snow or rain, cloudy.
To each their own but I would literally jump off a bridge if I had to put up with month after month of gray, rainy, cold weather. I don't care what problems S. Florida has, you could not pay me a million dollars to live up north ever again....I did it for 30 horrid years.

I also did it for too many years! Nor could you ever pay me any amount of money to live back up there. Nice to go home to visit the family in July and August, before or after that forget it!
Bring on the sunshine!
