once again, the crime rate in miami is beginning to rise;

2005... 56 murders
2006... 79 murders
2007... 86 murders

i can't see this getting any better - on top of all of this the fbi is still investigating the police department for "creative writing" on certain crimes, in order to lower the crime rate.

something interesting to that i just noticed while checking miami's crime page.. why is it that the US average is only 280.8 for miami whereas it is usually 300+ for other cities? i wonder if it has anything to do with the metropolitan area.

That's the reason crime statistics are given as a rate. It evens out differences in population.

Well have you watched the show on A&E called "The First 48" ? Its about real detectives solving brutal homicides in there city, and usually the cities that are showcased are Miami and Memphis. The areas they show in Miami are scary.

Maybe we can start a new slogan "Miami , hey at least its not Los Angeles"

The LA times has something on there website called "the homicide report" and it shows where the murders happened and who was killed and how they were killed. I have several connections working at The Miami Herald and Im thinking about pitching that idea for one of the reporters to do a Miami Homicide report. Perhaps that would open more eyes and maybe more can be done about all the homicides.

I know but 86 is still pretty low you would think it would be higher with the way people talk about Miami being dangerous city.

Yeah, 86 is lower than one would guess by looking at this forum.

I mean look at Phoenix it has a population of 1.5 million I know but still it has far more murders then Miami with 207 dropping from 214 last year. I know when you put both in ratio form aka the way the put up the numbers in stats it would be safer then Miami, but in reality it is many times more dangerous then Miami.

C'mon, tallrick. I like you, but let's be realistic!

425 slayings in one year (1984)! 86 is barely 20% of that!
