This was arguably back in the station's heyday...

They had greats like Tanner in the morning, Cox on the Radio, Mindy and Bo, Tyrone, a young DJ Laz, Kid Curry, Tony the Tiger, Felix Sama, Eddie Mix, Rafi Contigo, Jammin Johnny, etc.

I was merely beginning elementary school when Power 96 grew into a household name in the early 90s, but I remember them playing such great music, including terrific mixes and the "Power Love Hour" at night.

The station today pales in comparison.

I also associate Power 96 in the 90s with popular hot spots from which they would broadcast, like the Bakery Centre, Six Flags Atlantis, Hot Wheels, The Fair, etc.

What do you remember about the station back then? Do you feel it's gotten worse over time?

Yes.

Pre-2006 Power 96 ruled.

I think Power 96 began deviating from its bread-and-butter (dance music) and playing more urban music once the now-defunct Party 93.1 burst onto the scene. I remember Party taking jabs at Power for playing too many commercials, etc.

I was never a big listener but I do agree that they are a shadow of what they used to be. I don't think the problem for their decline is entirely their fault, music for the most part, has been declining for years now.

Whoops, my bad, I think Cox was always Power 96, but for some reason I thought maybe he did some time at Y-100. It's all sort of fuzzy, but wow, the 80s was great for radio in SoFlo.

I remember listening back then,I was in middle school and was into that music back then.I think around 11th grade my taste changed to more rock stuff and I stopped listening.Today I listen to Big 105.9 which is classic rock from before my time but I like it,but there's also no station out there that I know of that's playing the rock stuff I listened to in high school and college,so choices are limited.I have no clue what Power 96 is playing today.

The 80s? Hell, I remember when Y-100 first hit the air in the early 70s! I was in high school at South Miami and they had a contest wherein if you answered your phone with the phrase "I listen to the new sound of Y-100", you'd win a certain amount of money (I don't remember the specific amount.) I had a friend back then who's younger sister always answered the phone that way, which became quite annoying over time. Especially since I never really listened to Y-100; I was more into the album-oriented rock of WSHE: She's only Rock & Roll.

Yes, he did have a stint at Y-100 before working at Power.
