Or get a place in walking distance of the car2go garages (5th and Collins, 17th and Jefferson/Michigan.) Especially useful for getting back from the mainland at night when the busses are less frequent. There's Zipcar and Citibike too. Citibike is expanding to Miami this month.

If you like Manhattan, living far out in the suburbs in a place you can afford together with your car (and possibly still a roommate...) will be hell. Now Miami Beach is no Manhattan and some parts are decidedly NOT pedestrian friendly, but it does have by far the largest proportion of people in South Florida who get around using "alternative" transportation.

I am in the same situation, ie moving to south florida and no car, however im disabled and my budget is even less so ill probably wind up in the hood lol oh well so much for organic foods ill have to pray I wont be shot lol

I saw some really cheap studios near Hollywood beach and some in Victoria park neighborhood of ft Lauderdale if youre wiling to look there

^ OP prefers to live without a car. She needs to be in the city, the beach or outlying suburbs.
