I heard about this story recently and it pissed me off. Friends of Harry wake up to find Troeger cabin reduced to While it was not of much significance, it was something that I think should have been preserved. Miami seems to have very little history when compared to other cities and much of our past has either been demolished or significantly altered. For some reason many people in Miami seem to have little connection or interest in our past. This story shows how little developers and builders care about anything other than making money. The county should not have sold the property to begin with, that is really what set the pace for all of this to happen. They knew very well that anyone who bought the property would have strong intentions of demolishing it. The builder is probably going to build a McMansion complete with fake keystone, paver driveway, and granite countertops. It will be surrounded by small 1960's houses and surely someone with more money than brains will buy it.

The house was very small and crudely made but it reminded me of the earlier examples of Alfred Browning Parkers work most commonly found in Coconut Grove. If I would have been the builder I would have tried to work with what was already there and tried to create something unique, different, and in the same style as what was there already.

Yea, I have to agree and probably a Mcmansion like you said will be built, I hated when they knocked down the downtown library near Bayside and Miami Today building which was mostly brick something you don't see much of in Miami

If we wanted we could name so many buildings and homes of significance that have long since been demolished. Historic hotels along Miami Beach, historic homes on Star Island and other parts of Miami Beach, the birdcage house, historic homes along Brickell, the old East Coast Fisheries building on the Miami River, most of historic Overtown (the first black neighborhood in Miami), the Serpentarium, the farm that was part of Viscaya, the Sears building, the Miami Herald building (that one is debatable even by me), the Orange Bowl, and the Bobby Maduro Miami Stadium. The Miami Marine Stadium was a close call but it is still in limbo if you ask me since work still has not commenced.

I know this happens in every city and town across this country and the world and is a part of progress but it seems to be much more prevalent here in Miami.

A McMansion is doubtful.....it's a 7260 square foot lot in a neighborhood full of working class tract homes just off Us1.
