Sounds like an exaggeration to me.

Vacationed in SoBe twice, did not have any issues whatsoever getting by with English, not even at Puerto Sagura or the other hole-in-the-wall Cuban restaurants.

They should call it So BS instead. What an overrated dump it is now. You would have loved it in the late 80's - early 90's though.

I will agree that SoBe has changed A LOT. I used to go there every weekend to go clubbing. That was before the ghetto crap started coming in. I'm talking days of Liquid, Fat Black Pussycat, Original Cameo, etc. The last time I went clubbing there and this is many, many years ago, 3 black guys approached me and my two girlfriends trying to pick us up waiting for our valet car at like 4am on Washington and 6th. We politely declined and next thing I know we had a bottle thrown at us!!!!! Cops right there and saw and spoke with them. I have no idea of what happened as we left. Never went back

Ha. I don't know what South Beach the OP visited, but it's not the SoBe I know. If he had trouble finding people to speak English he must have been hanging out at a bodega or taco stand all day. I live in the heart of SoBe and 90% of my life revolves around speaking English. I suspect the OP is being over dramatic and attention seeking. Have a seat OP....

It has been years since I have been to SOBE and I live about 40 minutes. I really can't believe people waste their money to go there. I mean the cost to stay, eat, and party you could go to an exotic island. You can't help sheeple. They follow the hype.

Most, if not all, tourist destinations are going to be overrated and overpriced and businesses and vendors are going to want to get their hands on your money. $180 is expensive, but nowadays in most major US cities, it is difficult to find rooms walking distance to the main drag for much less than this. Try finding $180 a block or two off of Times Square NYC or Market & Powell in San Francisco, good luck! It's just not the OP's cup of tea I guess...which is perfectly fine. South Beach is definitely no sleepy, peaceful beach resort. Nor is it trying to become one.

What part of South Beach caters to the broke, urban, ghetto crowd did you not understand? I guess it seems like OP was right that idiots like you in South Beach cant understand a word of English.

As someone who has family in LA, thats exactly what it is. A ghetto, trashy version of Santa Monica- except with the same prices, and none of the class or sophistication.
