25 y/o professional coming to miami
Hello everyone!
I am interviewing with an engineering company located near the Predidential Country Club (33179 zipcode). If I am offered the job I will be relocating from VA. My old roommate and good college friend will be coming with me as well (his employer will transfer him to the miami office).
My question is: Where are the best places for 2 young, straight, professionals to live yet still have an exceptable commute to work? (45mins-1hour max if possible) If I'm staying in Miami, I'm not going to live in a slum and will enjoy the experience. $1000 per month for each of us ($2000/month total) for a 2 bedroom unit would be within our reach - give or take a bit.
We would prefer to be near entertainment where we can meet people similar to us and close if not ON the beach. I hear a lot of hype regarding south beach, but it seems quite expensive.
I'll be contacting a realtor at some point (or search on my own via craigslist). I need a starting place and hopefully you guys will have some good ideas. I see lots of places on craigslist with very nice granite kitchens and huge pools, beach access ect and seem very attractive.
Thanks in advance!
JP

You could probably just live right next door in Sky Lake and your looking at very little commute yet living in a nice neighborhood. A little more upscale, Aventura is literally around the corner, and you can rent an attractive TWO bedroom high rise condo with a view easily for 2000 a month. That price will be NO issue anywhere in South Florida.

Well if you practice safe sex and don`t shoot up dope you should be fine. Not moving to south beach because there might be alot of aids cases is a bit paranoid if you ask me. Aids is all over you have to be carful when having sex anywhere.

This is a 25 year old professional probably making good money ... why in hell would he want to move to South Carolina ... to watch the grass grow or the cars rust ?
What is nice in your opinion may not be nice in the eyes of another ... this guy is young and probably wants to have a good time for a couple of years ... thus South Beach is perfect for that person and not South Carolina attending church bake sales for fun on the weekends . South Carolina is fine if you are looking for a laid back place to raise kids .... but a single guy no way

Look in Coral Gables ... you can find nice rentals and it is a beautiful and safe upwardly mobile area for two single guys ... you have cool bars in the area off Miracle Mile , tree lined roads for biking or jogging ... you are fifteen minutes from Coconut Grove nightlife ... twenty minutes from Brickell or Key Biscayne and may be 30 minutes from South Beach ..... to raise a family no way ... but to have a great time and enjoy your single life it is perfect .

Although I typically agree with your posts, theres no way I would take a half an hour commute when that country club itself is in a perfectly decent area and around the corner from Aventura, which is a spotless perfect for young professionals.

exactly if you don't move to an area or city because of that I don't think anyone would be living in DC. Just be smart and careful.
