Is Little Havana dangerous?
I found this sweet artist loft 1800sqft in Little Havana for $1k a month. Is Little Havana a dangerous place for a blonde girl to live?

I would suggest you look elsewhere. A typical apartment in a nice area in Dade is like 1k a month for 1 bedroom/600 sq feet apt. Like the rest of the country, you get what you pay for. It sounds like you're getting a bargain...and probably for a good reason. I'd keep searching.

Little Havana is a so-so area and yes, you'd be fine living there are a blonde girl. Believe it or not, there are plenty of blonde Cuban girls who live there. That loft sounds WAY too good to be true, so it must be in bad shape or on a bad block. Look at other apartments in the area; you can get a nice 1 bedroom in a newer building for around that price.

It really depends on what area of little havana you are speaking of. Most of little havana is fine, just different.
It is called little havana for a reason, so if you are open to a culturally diverse area, you will really enjoy it.

I briefly lived in the area, not on my own though just temporarily with some friends who moved there. I don't know about as far as being blond will make you stick out like a sore thumb, but I'm a young female and I didn't have problems there, its not the greatest just 'so-so' like another poster stated.

It's not the greatest area in Miami, but not the worst. And yes, you'd probably stick out like a sore thumb being blonde! Heck, this goes for anywhere in Miami $1000 for an 1800 sq. ft. apartment DOES sound too good to be true. Make sure to check it out in person (and the surrounding area) and do your research. Rent is expensive in Miami--I pay $1400/mo. for an unfurnished 750 sq. ft. apartment with no parking that is average (old, crappy, cheap building, but renovated decently on the inside)...just to give you an idea...

It's not the safest area, but not the most dangerous, either. You should have some street smarts if you're planning on moving to Little Havana. However, I have never encountered any problems when visiting my friend's house there (we even had a Cuban party ).

It is unfathomable to me that a space that large would rent for only $1000/month in a close-in, non-ghetto neighborhood. It looks fine to me but seems too good to be true. Must be a crappy building on a bad block. I highly recommend looking at relatively new buildings (with security and gated/underground parking) in Little Havana where you can get a 750 square foot 1 bedroom for about $1000.
I'll reiterate that that isn't necessarily a NICE area, but it isn't a dangerous ghetto either. I would feel fine living there but would personally choose other neighborhoods with more restaurants, nightlife, and upscale rentals.
