When I was in Miami Beach sometime in the 1980's, there use to be a hotel called "The Caribbean Hotel" and there were numerous of other scattered down Collins Avenue. Does "The Caribbean Hotel" still exist~? Just curious. It was blocks away from the Fontainebleau, I recall. I walked all the way to South Beach, which wasn't a long walk then. How safe is it now on Collins Avenue and the walk to South Beach~? Just curious.

Yes, it still exists, but it has been renovated, rebuilt, and is now a condominium complex. It is about 5-6 blocks from the entrance to the Fountainbleau.

Both Collins Ave and south beach are a lot safer than in the 1980's (other than some bad drivers).

I recall walking to South Beach and there was an area that didn't look too safe and the people in those areas. No one bothered me tho. I've been traveling north of Miami when I do come south. When I was there in Florida earlier in the year, I traveled into North Miami. Never been there. Seem very Spanish, even in McDonald's.

I didn't know the name of that place (thanks) and my girl lives right across ...the underground garage is full of expensive exotics last I saw...definitely a beautiful piece of architecture.

The walk to south beach from the Caribbean/Fountainbleau is very safe. A nicer walk than on Collins Avenue is to take the boardwalk on the beach side of the buildings. At 22nd Street the boardwalk turns into a concrete path, which goes all the way to the southern tip of Miami Beach.

Do those restaurants still exist there and the bakeries? I remember one restaurant that served the most scrumptious key lime pie :P and a bakery that sold pound cake by the pound.
