A Mackle home was affordable, probably well built, but you can't say that's a beautiful home or that it has any nice architectural features. It's basically a box. I like the siding home a lot more. At least there are lines, different textures. I'm not commenting on how well each is built, just the appearance of the homes. Everyone has their own tastes I guess.

I think the siding looks fine there, just the colour is drab.

This is one city definitely in need of trees as that is happening presently as I stated before to Badger about the Miami-Dade plant a million trees is to increase the canopy. You can have all the pretty and luxurious homes you want but not having trees is bland. Yes, Hialeah has put in new streets, sidewalks and trees planted as you can go on to Google Map for evidence. I won't say every street though.

This is a hard-working blue-collar neighborhood, nothing fancy, definitely will never attain Coral Gable standards but to me it is just average lower middle- class independent municipality.

This is part of the gorgeous Miami I was alluding to in a prior post

Eat your heart out Denton Texas Yee Haw y'all

Amelia Earhart park is pretty, and so is the place with the horse races. There's also that little shopping area which I think is kinda new. Besides that though, it looks like Detroit without the snow, the English language or as bad of crime. I don't really care much for Denton either, though. I only live here for school lol I think there's WAY too much construction and roads don't make sense. The one thing to look forward to is cooler weather than most of Texas in the fall and winter. I liked Abilene and West Texas in general, better though. So much less humidity, better roads, better drivers and friendly people. But hey, I'd rather be here than Austin, or Hialeah

One thing that makes Miami so bland and ugly is this city does not value parks and green spaces. You mention Amelia Earhardt and Hialeah Park, but it's a teeny tiny drop in the bucket. Thank God Miami is on the Atlantic Ocean and developers can't do a damn thing about building on it otherwise Miami would have almost zero nature. Check out Miami's park score:

ParkScore

If it weren't for beach parks we'd be even lower. We should be towards the top considering we already have so much waterfront giving us advantages over many landlocked cities or cities with less waterfront that scored higher. I also wonder how much lower we'd fall if they included more of "Miami" instead of just the city. It's glaringly obvious that the majority of Dade County doesn't value green spaces and nature.
I'm not really comparing Denton. I've only been in Denton for less than a month and honestly, the only positives so far are the hilly roads. Its nicer than constant flatness. I don't like the construction here and there's lots of dumpy areas too. I'm comparing more to Abilene and San Angelo, where I spent a lot more time in, and also lived in prettier neighbourhoods. The nice parts of North Texas are more like Plano and Frisco. Denton's a college town which does have lots of bars and places to eat, but could use better roads. The houses are mostly "eh" but at least they don't all have the same look!

Also, why only waterfront? I don't know a SINGLE person in Miami that lived close enough to the water. Miami has lots of inland suburbs, and thats the Miami I grew up in. Not some nice oceanfront condo. I wish! ^^

There was a poster that posted a waterfront Miami picture and made a comment about Denton. That's what I was referring to. Yes, you're right. Most of Miami doesn't live in that photo. We're mostly stuck in the generic suburbs.

A Mackle home is gorgeous compared to horrible eyesores like Kendall Square. Even old developments like Country Walk are homely next to the simple tropical Estates boxes built in the 50's. A modern home looks a lot better than a balloon frame wood home ready to burn to the ground at a moment's notice. Vinyl siding reminds me of a mobile home, but stone reminds me of home.

Here is an aberrant discovery, might be faux brick, but nonetheless a brick building in Miami Shores. They tore down a brick building(Miami Today) and superseded it with a condo within the Brickell City Centre development.

To you - the Mackle homes are gorgeous compared to ... That's your taste. We're talking about looks, not what's stronger or better suited to an area. I love the look of the Country Walk homes. Not saying they they are well made, but I like the style. Everyone has different tastes and preferences. I like the siding, front porches, shutters, two story farmhouse look. You like minimalist, mid century. Siding doesn't have to be vinyl. Mine isn't. Those boxes along Bird Road are hideous to me. They were built to be affordable, not beautiful. My parents' old home in Westchester was a bit nicer than those boxes. It was raised off the ground, had a front porch and wood floors. That's my preference. My ideal home would be one of those old Key West pine homes. Wood everywhere. Like this one:

The Oldest Home in Miami (Coral Gables) is For Sale and Could be Yours for the New Year!

It pains me to think that the wood siding was replaced with stucco to adhere to Coral Gables codes. Seriously???

Also, the two links you posted are much nicer homes than the Mackle boxes.

Here is a beautiful two-story home in Glenvar Heights, looks more like a mansion , not too far east off the Palmetto Expressway

Here is an odd looking house on pilings in the canal, love the beautiful Australian Pines that lines the water.

Can't see the homes for the trees in Kendall Lakes(122nd Avenue). The road is lined with something other than Royal Palms.
