University of Miami
Well I have just been accepted to the University of Miami for the Fall 08 semester. I have a few choices but Miami is pretty high on my list. I'm going to be visting soon but I'd like to hear experiences on Coral Gables/Life in Miami and it would be especially nice to hear experiences from the school itsself. I'll be transferring there and I'm a 20 year old guy. I'm pretty outgoing and I really want to meet a bunch of different people. What is the typical person out there like? Is it true most people are the stereotypical stuck up brat, or will I meet smart people from all over? I'd love to hear comments, truthfully I don't know much about it.. I'm coming from Michigan!

I graduated UM back in 96 so alot has changed.. I still go to the Wellness Center there as an alumni and it's phenomenal... I know the campus has grown and the student body itself is different but I think that this is a good spot for someone as yourself... I had a great experience there and have great memories... The only downside is the amount of temptation near by to go party instead of hitting the books.. If you can manage that, you'll be fine...

i'm wayy past partying.. I mean I like going out don't get me wrong, but that is not high enough on my priority list to get me in trouble with my grades anymore. I went through that stage in high school =P

I believe you!... But I also have heard that before... Again, if you can manage that you'll be fine... Miami is different than other places... LOTS of temptation to screw off... Not just partying... Good luck...

Coral Gables is an awesome area. Very nice and tons to do. I actually work with someone who recently moved here from Michigan and he loves it. UMiami IS known to be full of rich, spoiled kids and you'll definitely see TONS of students driving brand new, decked out Escalades and BMWs convertibles, but I'm sure it can't be everybody. Miami is very pretentious and people are all about flashy cars, nice clothes, and partying until 5am, but in the college world, you'll get a lot of people from other areas of the country who aren't into that nonsense. Go for it

I have no idea if you'll like it, but I just wanted to say congratulations on your acceptance! That is great news. Good luck wherever you go.
