In Palm Beach County and Broward County there are blacks that exist in middle class neighborhoods.

In Miami-Dade, however, it appears as if they mostly only live in run down areas away from other races. You won't find Cubans living in the same neighborhoods as Haitians, for example.

There aren't really too many blacks in PB County in middle to upper income neighborhoods, although on the other hand it's not the kind of place where people care what race their neighbors are. The came can not be said for many parts of Miami-Dade. Kind of reminds me of parts of So Cal that don't have many blacks but not because they are insulated, but just the history of the area. People tend to care more about if they keep up their lawn or (unfortunately) what kind of car they drive more so than the color of their skin.

There are plenty of areas that are almost exclusively Hispanic, like Fountianbleau, Sweetwater, Flagami, Westchester, Hialeah, and at that they are clustered within that (I.E Hialeah is where the Cubans live, Sweetwater is where the Nicaraguans live, etc). However it's tough to find a middle or upper class area in Dade with a lot of black residents.

The only areas in Broward County that does not have a significant black presence are Davie and Cooper City, the former which has plenty of run down areas as well as many middle end and upscale areas (which have the most blacks out of all of the areas in Davie), and the latter is just dead center middle class. Nothing really fancy. Everywhere else it as least 10% black, even Parkland is almost 10%. So basically, blacks span all economic classes there.

So do I think South Florida is diverse? Yes. Do I think Miami-Dade is diverse? Not really, however parts are. Do I think Broward is diverse? Yes. Do I think Palm Beach is diverse? To an extent.

It's fine to say that Miami-Dade is not diverse, but statistics show that it is NOT segregated when you look at white non-Hispanics, Hispanics, Asians, other non-black groups. Let me show some examples of "Hispanic" areas that are nonetheless very integrated with non-Hispanic whites and Asians. Keep in mind that Miami-Dade County, as per the 2006 Census estimate, is 61.3% Hispanic, 18.3% white non-Hispanic, 20.2% black, 1.5% Asian, with the rest being mixed race or "other." In my examples I will abbreviate "Hispanic" as "H," white non-Hispanic as "W" and Asian as "A." I have heard many people refer to every single one of these areas as "Hispanic" and have heard many people call them "segregated" - largely, the number shows that they are NOT segregated when you talk about Hispanics and non-Hispanics (minus non-Hispanic blacks). I left out the black percentages because they are very low and would show obvious and well-known segregation between blacks and non-blacks. Also, there are plenty of areas in Miami-Dade with high Hispanic AND white non-Hispanic populations that I did NOT include because people don't think of them as "Hispanic" areas. For that reason you will not find included in these stats Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, Coral Gables, South Miami, Miami Beach, North Bay Village, Miami Shores, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, and other places I may be forgetting.

Miami-Dade Avg. H-61.3% W-18.3% A-1.5%
Westchester: H-85.3% W-13.7% A-2.8%
Doral: H-67.4% W-24.0% A-5.1%
Hialeah: H-85.2% W-8.1% A-0.4%
Fountainbleau: H-87.2% W-9.4% A-1.9%
Kendall: H-49.9% W-41.6% A-3.0%
West Kendall: H-79.0% W-15.3% A-1.5%
Kendale Lakes: H-76.6% W-18.9% A-1.9%
Tamiami: H-87.0% W-11.8% A-0.6%
Miami Lakes: H-66.5% W-28.1% A-2.2%
Sweetwater: H-93.2% W-6.2% A-0.2%
Palm Springs North: H-64.9% W-33.2% A-0.6%
The Crossings: H-56.1% W-34.0% A-3.3%
The Hammocks: H-65.3% W-23.0% A-3.3%
Miami Springs: H-59.6% W-37.0% A-1.2%
West Miami: H-84.0% W-15.0% A-0.4%

Besides Sweetwater (which is the most segregated Hispanic versus non Hispanic place in all of Miami-Dade, and to a lesser extent, Hialeah, where is all this segregation and non-diversity about which you all love to speak?

The stats kind of prove my point. It shows that a couple of the areas have a presence of US born people (no other races though) but most of it is quite segregated. 70-80% solid majority is pretty homogeneous. Whatever, we obsess over stats. All it really takes is driving around the areas to see.

But I said that you are entitled to your opinion that Miami-Dade isn't diverse. However, where is the segregation between Hispanics and white non-Hispanics / Asians about which so many people love to speak? Where are these "segregated" Hispanic neighborhoods about which people love to complain? They pretty much don't exist because they are well-integrated with white non-Hispanics and Asians. Non-Diversity and segregation are two different things. In theory, compelled, I could make my point perfectly by using a neighborhood that was 80.2% Hispanic, 18.3% white non-Hispanic, and 1.5% Asian/other non-black. In this example, there is statistically perfect integration between Hispanics and the other two groups.

Stats are the truth here. I have driven around almost all of these areas and all of them except a few can HARDLY be called Hispanic ghettos. There are places in this country that are 99% white non-Hispanic and less than one percent "other," just as there are urban ghettos in this country that are literally 99% black and less than one percent "other." It's unfair and statistically incorrect to suggest that there is segregation between Hispanics and white non-Hispanics / Asians / other non-black groups in Miami-Dade County. You want to see Hispanic segregation? Try elsewhere.

My head hurts now lol, and I usually AM the stat master. Anyway, I'm surprised you don't see the segregation factor in that list. Most "black" neighborhoods aren't 100% black either, go look up all of the CDPs that became Miami Gardens like Carol City. Plus, the stats aren't even telling the whole story because these neighborhoods are tight knit on a block by block basis.

I think that the ONLY reason Broward wins on less segregation is because blacks there are less segregated from other groups. Broward may be more diverse than Miami-Dade, but I'm not sure that if we were talking about the groups I discussed in my analysis I would call it less segregated. Broward isn't the only place people hold hands and dance around in circles singing songs of diversity. People in Miami-Dade live on blocks that are just as integrated as those in Broward.

I didn't even bring up Broward in context to this but it isn't really all kum-by-yah either, just more than Dade. Plenty of solid black majority areas (especially towards the Northeast side), just not many solid majorities of anything else.

If you want to see integrated, go to Sacramento, CA.

I think segregated is a bit too harsh to describe it, Whites just happen to only be 18% of 2million so ofcourse the majority is going to be prelavant in most areas, but theres really no segregation, Hialeah believe it or not is 85% hispanic meaning 15% is either white, black, asian or something else. 8% in Hialeah is close to 20K white people! Hialeah also has a black neighborhood very few people know about near around Telemundo. Blacks historically have always been segregated more so in the south, its no different here, but Ive seen plenty of Black families in heavy hispanic or white areas, look at the NMB large jewish community amongst a large haitian community amongst one of the few prelavant asian areas in Miami. Same thing for lots of areas.

North Miami Beach sort of reminds me of Delray Beach. The demographics are different but it's weird to see how many areas are divided between rich Jews and poor Haitians.

And in response to blacks in the suburbs of Palm Beach County, tons of them exist in Boynton Beach and the suburbs of West Palm Beach in very nice neighborhoods.
