Crap, I just noticed I made another mistake. Along Hollywood Blvd east of Dixie is good (thats downtown), but once you go south of Harrison St and north of Tyler St it phases into a layer of "ugly" and eventually into "bad". I'm thinking of 5 years ago when it was in bad shape.

I thought it was illegal to own any pitbull (full or mixed) in So Fl?

From what I understand, I think pitbulls (mixes, etc) are only banned in Miami-Dade, which is why I am looking for places to live outside of Miami-Dade but close enough to commute to the Miami VA Hospital, where I will be working.

Wrong. They are only illegal in Miami-Dade.

I think your biggest problem will be finding someone or some complex that WILL rent to yo WITH a Pitbull "mix" (if it looks like a pitbull, people won't even hear the word "mix at the end of it"). There have been many serious, scary, sad and tragic incidencts locally which explains the ban in Miami Dade...and yes are most likely the fault of the owners. Nonetheless, people tend to be very weary of this breed, and even though you many legally own one in Broward, most complexes have bans against certain breeds, this being one of them. You might have to end up renting a house as an alternative, so keep that in mind.

You'll want to live somewhere in Broward. My neighbor who works at the VA hospital catches a ride in a van supplied by the hospital, at Muvico in Davie. Something to consider.

Default does he REALLY look like a pitbull.. i've been told yes... but i don't see very much pitbull in him

I tried to attach a photo... does he really look like a pitbull? We adopted him via a friend of a friend who couldn't keep him at his apartment, etc. when he was a baby. So, we actually dont really know what breed(s) he really is. The vet has guessed boxer, lab, american bulldog mix.

I have a Labrador Retiever MIX...half Lab half mut. Your dog actually has the same face as my dog...so maybe he is a Lab Pitbull mix...? But yes, if I saw him I would say Pitbull mix because of the body and shape of the head. Looks like a nice dog. Also, if you try to rent from an individual as oppsoed from a corporation, have them meet the dog and PROVE he is obediant, friendly. Offer to pay first and last months ment, in addition to a DOG deposit and regular deposit. Someone who offers that much shows they are good people who love their dog.

Another tip - expect that most gated, homeowner association-run communities will have rules against pitbulls, and the nice areas of Pembroke Pines and Miramar are basically made up of these types of communities. My cousin has a pitbull and lives in an apartment complex on Flamingo Rd just south of Sunrise Blvd and the Sawgrass Mills mall on the border of Plantation and Sunrise. The name is or is something like Lago Vista. 2 bedrooms there run about $1200. It's a good long way from Jackson Meml though.

If you include traffic in the am/pm rush hour times, how long of a commute would it be from the west pembroke pines or cooper city area to downtown miami (miami va hospital, miami jackson memorial hospital, etc.)?? Am I looking at about 1 1/2 hours via car?
