Hello guys, first time visitor to Miami (or surrounding area in general) so please excuse my ignorance. We will be flying into Ft Lauderdale International Airport March 9th, early in the morning to stay over night for a Carnival Cruise the next day. Ideally I'd like to stay somewhere within a 15 mile radius to the Carnival Cruise Terminal on Dodge Island. We are not very interested in the whole Spring Break scene in Miami, so I'm debating whether or not Miami Beach is something we should completely avoid. However, I do want to get a nice overview of the city and maybe do a boat tour, eat at a few top rated restaurants, and have a nice relaxing evening during our short stay here. A co worker suggested Bayside Market Place? Any thoughts about this area?

Overall we don't have much interest in enjoying the night life of Miami (would rather get good rest for the cruise the next day). But still want to get a good overview of the city. If anyone has any suggestions on areas to stay, and/or hotels I'd appreciate it.

Can't go wrong with a Marriott.
What about the Biscayne Bay Marriott?

Wait, you want to rest up before the cruise?

I guess I worded it wrong. Basically I'm not trying to stay out clubbing/bar hopping all night.

Stay Downtown, someplace like the Intercontinental hotel. Hop on the metromover and ride around downtown for free. Yo can even get some culture at the Freedom Tower or the Perez Museum of Art Walk over to Bayfront park for dinner. Easy Uber over to the Cruise ship in the morning.

Why does everyone think that there's spring breakers in Miami? I mean I'm sure there's some, but they're hidden among the usual hordes of tourists.

IMO Miami is no longer a spring break mecca.

End of March will be ULTRA, and that is crazyness.

Miami never really was. Definitely not on the same scale as Ft. Lauderdale back in the day.
