Disclaimer: I dont live in Miami Beach

While urban beach weekend has issues that definatley need to be addressed. Messing with the alcohol laws for the rest of the year would be playing a very economically dangerous game. All you have to do is look north to the decline of Daytona Beach after they cracked down on spring breakers to see what happens when locals push for laws that crackdown too hard on tourism.

Yep! And Panama City Beach wants to make major crackdowns on Spring Break (their only real tourism in the year) and it would affect the rest of the year patrons as well.

With regards to 'thug culture', not sure what parts of the beach you frequent, but that's definitely not the case. Sure if you hang out on Ocean drive and Collins between 5th and 10th it might be a little more seedy. But those that live in the booming Sunset Harbor neighborhood, West Ave area, Lincoln Road/Meridian, etc. absolutely love it and its only getting better. New stores, upgrading the streets, adding bike lanes, better grocery stores, etc. Not to mention how South of Fifth has transformed over the last 7 years and is now one of the priciest sections in all of Florida.

Definitely shouldn't paint the whole area with 1 brush.
