Having a kid - where to move?
I know this has been re-hashed a bit, but I'm expecting my first child in July and am considering leaving the Miam-Dade area for the sake of finding the best place to raise children. I'm not a Miami-hater (in fact I quite like living here), but have to admit it's probably not the best place to have kids.
With that in mind, if you were to consider relocating for the sake of your children, which city would you move to in...
1) ... the USA
2) ... Flordia
3) ... Broward
4) ... Miami-Dade (if you had to stay)
Commentary on schools, crime, things for kids/parents to do, housing, cost of living, etc. are extremely welcome!
Places that come to my mind per my list are Seattle, Sarasota, Weston, Coral Gables.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
TP

1. It would probably be somewhere in the NE
2. Somewhere in Martin County. Maybe South Tampa, or maybe Palm Harbor.
3. Cooper City, or Weston
4. Pinecrest

1) ... the USA - Brookline, MA; Westfield, NJ; or Roslyn, NY; maybe even nice Orange County, CA suburbs like Laguna Niguel or Mission Viejo.
2) ... Florida - Coral Gables or Pinecrest/East Kendall
3) ... Broward - Weston
4) ... Miami-Dade - Coral Gables or Pinecrest/East Kendall
No matter what anyone on here will tell you, much (as in, HUGE SWATHS) of Miami-Dade county are traditional suburban areas with lots of families: almost all of Kendall, Coral Gables, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, parts of Cutler Bay, Miami Lakes, northern Hialeah (a very Hispanic area as I know people will say this) and unincorporated Miami-Dade directly north/northwest of Hialeah... The great majority of Broward is traditionally suburban, so if that's what you want, almost everywhere in Broward would be worth consideration. I don't really understand when people say that suburban Orlando (blah!) or Tampa (nondescript with a lot of blah!) are better for families than South Florida. If I had a child and wanted to buy a single family home in the state of FL, I would live in Coral Gables, Pinecrest, or East Kendall.

no where in Florida for me. With my vocational skill set and incredible amount of swagger I would say NYC, DC, Chicago or Nashville
