Our family with kids looking to move to Homestead. We will come to the area soon driving around but want to do some online research first. Which school disctrict is the good one (elementary school)? Our budget is $300,000. We want big yard for dogs. Can be small house. Our main concern is safety and kid friendly neighborhood.

Thanks for your time,

I would suggest one of the gated communities..... Keys Gate, etc. They are much safer. I lived in Homestead for 36 years.

Thanks so much. Is there any other neighborhood that is good other than Keys Gate? We are looking for the area wihout HoA (if possible). How did you enjoy 36 years in Homestead?

Buy a home with acreage the more land there is around homes the lower the crime rate. More trees have the same effect. Avoid any high density areas especially those without trees.

Safe and Homestead don't belong in the same sentence. Try somewhere else.

I lived in the Homestead area (south of 296 Street) from 1978 to mid 2016. I never felt fearful of my personal safety, but my home, which I purchased in 1993, was broken into 3 times and attempted (ran when the alarm went off) about 6 times. Always when I was at work, during the daytime. I had numerous plants stolen from my yard, fruit picked without my permission, etc. Crime is really bad in Homestead, proper. The town is dirty, more homes are rented, less upkeep, cars parked all over front lawns, etc. My home was located in what was a good part of town, called the old northwest section. This is the area south of 296th street and south to and including NW/NE 16th Street and both east and west of Krome Avenue. There are still some nice homes in this area. Many of the homes were built in the 1950's with a few older homes built in the 1920's. The area is getting more and more Hispanic/Haitian/Central American. Not bad or good, just is happening.

My home, 1345 sq ft on 1/2 acre (3 lots) sold for $202,000.00 last year.
