Record number of visitors visit Miami, record spending achieved in 2007
Record number of local visitors, record spending achieved in 2007
An unprecedented 12 million people visited Miami-Dade County in 2007, spending $17.1 billion, according to a yearend report by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors bureau.
"We had a record year," Bill Talbert, bureau president and CEO, told Miami-Dade County commissioners March 18.

That is great news Kevin for the City of Miami-Dade,it is wonderful to see that 16.6% of the visitors stayed in downtown Miami, this shows that the city has great 4 and 5 star hotels downtown where they can stay. I think people get the notion that visitors stay only on the Miami Beach side, but this article in Miami Today points out that both sides of the bay get their fair share of visitors.
This is very impressive considering 9\11 has slowed down visas and people entering in to this country that there is record spending for 2007 in Miami and it is impressive that there is repeat vistors from prior years back to the city. So kudos to Miami -Dade for a job well done.

A weak dollar does wonders for tourism. Too bad it makes everything we buy more expensive. I'd prefer to see the dollar at parity with the Euro adn at about 145 Yen.

Miami IS a super-fun place to visit. You get all the good stuff - weather, shopping, food, beach, nightlife - without all the bad.

Where does all the money go? With all that money you think the county would manage to be rich but its still one of the most poor in Florida.

The only reason Miami has a lot of tourists is because
of the close proximity to Central and South America. Many
Hispanics from those areas come and do business here.
