I wish I would have missed all the three-some's postings! I've even managed to stay out of it, until just now. It is rather comical though.
I'm happy for CiXel. Says he got a job (another thread). Looks like I'm keeping tabs on him He started to grow on me.
One thing I don't understand is why he would want to get a job here to stay, when he keeps wanting to be back in LA having the good life and eating GOOD asian food?
Cixel- go get some good rice and beans man. Like they say, when in Rome.....

Okay, well maybe we'll grow on you too eventually.
You have to get your rice and beans somewhere like La Carreta, El Palacio de los Jugos, Pollo Tropical or a Latin American. These are all not expensive and El Palacio is kind of dinky but most have good cooks. A smaller place would be even better. Once you start cooking great quantities, you lose out. None of those catered things are worth much if you're looking for "homemade" taste.
Personally, I open up a can of El Ebro beans. Heat it up and put on real rice made in the rice cooker.

I sure love Pollo Tropical... (Tropical Chicken)
We gave up fast food at places like McDonald's or Burger King, for example, when this place opened up - and they have a drive-thru, too. One can get a fresh home like meal like for $3 something when one is hurried & on the go ...and it attaches to your ribs! It's entertaining as one can see how they cook the chicken there behind the counters in these big open fire grills - all so fresh and yummy.
Yes, 'El Ebro' are the best black beans going in a can - they are cooked to perfection (perfect consistency), with the right blend of spices. It's unlike the others that are just boiled in water and salt; and are hard, like in a water base...yuck. I have a friend that adds little pieces of chopped up onions and olives, when guests come over and she takes the credit for making them herself (over those 5 minute rice packs that come in a box)...the little sneaky devil. Anyhow, the El Ebro's don't need any stuff added to 'em, as they are perfect just the way they are - straight from the can.

LOLLL. So when are we all coming over? Get some chicken at Publix, a few cans of beans, some Goya fried plaintain (which you can microwave) and a FLAN from Lila's?
Anybody hungry yet?
For those picky eaters, we can order some of the "special flied rice" from the Cuban Chinese take-out!

I'm not Lulu BUT - it's fast because they are quick. It's not the pre-cooked and stuck in a plastic pan to keep it hot meal.
Besides, they also have fish, pork, veggies, salads, etc.

Don't laugh...well, of course you can ...
But seriously, during the holidays I went to someone's house (not the same sneaky gal, w/the bean deal), nor were they hispanic either & they served these heavenly tasty sweet bananas w/dinner and I asked the host, if she didn't mind, to give me the recipe (I love to cook ..I cook Galician soups, paella's, etc.), anyhow she remained quiet but later in the kitchen all quiet she tells me, "you know, I bought a box of Goya's sweet platanos (sweet banana's) - the long ones, not the ones that are cut - put them frozen right out of the box on a cooking sheet, spread a bit of real butter and sprinkled a little white wine over them, baked for a bit in the oven and that's that".
I've bought them, when pressed for time (yes, good microwaved) and they are very good...one gets like 3 precooked long bananas, all peeled and everything...for like $1.30 - not bad at all.

Yes, you are right that it's fast food as in 'zip-zip', out you go...but it's like a whole homemade meal & made right there - one can actually see them cooking the chicken, etc. They have the 1/4 piece deal that give you a piece of freshly cooked chicken, rice & beans and a piece of bread for like $3 bucks - plus, the condiment counter has fresh little chopped onions, etc and this really tasty homemade sauce (vpcats help me...what's it called??) all free - you can drench your meal in this and it's sooo...good. There's no fear of how long it's been sitting there or whatnot (no bacteria or food borne illness issues) as they have a high turnover and everything is so fresh.
Vpcats is right that it's not the unseen prepackaged from God knows where, then microwaved, grilled or whatever and then stuck in a box - and it's become sort of expensive, too.
Anyhow, as far as fast foods - and I can only speak for me - is the best healthiest, most economical, fastest way to go.
vpcats...yeah, those Cuban Chinese sure know how to cook!!! If there's one thing that I sure love about Miami, it's the variety foods; and in w/the Cuban Chinese they express the integration of 2 cultures into one. Fascinating...
Btw..there were 2 Cuban Chinese couples that owned a very popular Miami beach Restaurant & they had been there since the 60's - they were Cuban chinese that left when Castro took over. Unfortunately, they closed shop for good a few months ago - the ins. issues, etc. weren't helping them stay afloat and they finally took the opportunity & called it quits. Lots were sad to see them go. Well, another piece of Miami history thrown out to sea.
Well, If I ever were to move...I think I'd really miss the foods here the most. Maybe, they can go one step beyond fast food and create air food and air mail it to me??? Ha, ha...
