Nobody said the crime rate hasn't gone up. But a 1.7 increase isn't something we should be hiding under the covers for. That's besides the most common crime except for basic larceny is burglary so hiding inside doesn't help much either. I posted the new stats in the FL forum. Dade and Broward HAVE taken a major increase and that I will give you.

In Palmetto Bay the crime rate is a little up, but thank God here in Pinecrest apparently is not rising significantly.

I had already lived in a third-world country ( Brazil ); the crime rate there is multiple times higher than here and I had to live in a gated condominium with lots of security and avoid going outside at night to avoid being a victim of crimes.

35% lower than 1997! This is nothing too big, now if it continues or increases by more this year, thats something to worry about. Right now the pollice departments will just say they will fight crime harder and the usual.

our little county, indian river, had a crime drop this year of 1.4% and 10.3% last year, so things are looking pretty good here.
