What language is being spoken in all those Skyscrapers in Downtown Miami?
I just returned from a trip to Miami. Wow! I can not get over how many office buildings are being built in Downtown. I always wondered what type of companies are in these buildings and what they are doing. One person told me that many are financial and trade companies doing business with South America. What language is being spoken in the Miami Skyscrapers offices and conference rooms? English or Spanish?
Espanol mostly. Miami has consciously shunned everything American. That is why there are few Americans here. DUH! Thats also who "La Raza" prophecy is starting to come true.
Dude, the la Raza prophecy is something to which only a small minority of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans subscribe. To quote someone on this board, we only have 12 Mexicans down here, and 8 live in Homestead. LOL
The last time I checked, the main language of big business in Miami was English. Business at multinational corporations is conducted in both English and Spanish and I think it's pretty ignorant to say that Spanish-speaking people shun anything American. Plenty of us were born and raised in the States, and out of the newcomers, I'm sure that most love being in this country. Just because someone speaks Spanish doesn't mean that they hate America. That's just silly.
Yeah you have to go up to Palm Beach County (Lake Worth) for the La Raza stuff lol.
When I first heard of La Raza (the race) I couldn't belive it. If there was a white group like that... oh wait a minute. There was. The Nazi party. The very fact that these guys have ANY legitimacy is beyond rediculous. They should be shunned like all other racial suprimisists.

Very true and I am very greatful for everyone who does lvoe America no matter where they come from. However, there are some Hispanics in Dade county which take great pleasure in "owning" the city, as some of them put it. They know they run things here and they take pride in it. Why anyone whould want to take pride in how Miami is currently run is beyond me but I guess if you have nothing else to be proud of you'll grasp at anything.
I think the reason people may think that the main language of business down here is Spanish is because since most people speak Spanish as their first language then it is only natural for them to do business with each other in Spanish. If I was in China and had to do business with another American I'd certainly do it in English (unless he was from Miami in which case I'd be screwed ). However, even if they are doing business in Spanish I have no doubt that they wouold switch to English to close a deal if they had to. Money trumps even ethnic identity and language. I woudln't want to be part of the business world down here though unless I was fluent in Spanish. Too much of a disadvantage.

They will be speaking in English in those huge financial towers. Since there are a lot of companies and headquarters from Latin America, there might be more Spanish on the phone with employees calling overseas to Latin America, but besides that mostly English.
Saying that Hispanics and Spanish-speakers are anti-American is ridiculous. Just because we may be bilingual in Spanish doesn't make us any less Americans, we still speak perfect fluent English, we were still raised and born here, we're still American.
None of us are saying Spanish speakers are anti-American. As Americans we have freedom of speech so exercising that right is actually very American and we should continue to take advantage of our rapidly diminishing freedoms so they don't diminish even faster. People here are talking about a very specific type of person that can be encountered in relatively large numbers in Miami who does have this Conquistador-type attitude. Diversity needs to be accepted in both the English and Spanish speaking community, and in many cases it isn't on both sides. We aren't talking about people like yourself, and you know that I acknowledge that there are many, many individuals like yourself out there, and in fact I think they are a majority.

You just answered the lady's question: The main language in the business community down here is Spanish. That does NOT mean they can't speak English, it just means that the main language is Spanish.
