That one is usually OK but the cashiers and deli people aren't very nice there. I think they have a bad manager. The rest of the Publix in this area are good for the staff.

I would think that you've let other factors of Miami bother you so much you just OVERgeneralize and say Miami is that bad, just saying what you did about clerks and waiters sounds ridiculous to me, yea Ive seen it and experienced it but not as much as you make it sound.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Live here a little longer and Miami will grow on you as well, trust me.

Maybe you negative posters have not lived anywhere else. I have been out of Miami for 10 years and am missing it badly. Although the town in N Florida that I live in is considered to be one of the best to raise a family, buy real estate, friendliness of people, etc., nothing compares to Miami for me! I miss the beach, the food, the culture, the festivals, the shopping, the weather and the tolerance of other cultures! Here, people are so clickish and stuffy and prejudice! Every city has drawbacks. A bigger city is going to have lack of housing availability or high cost issues, traffic, and more crime! But it is still the City Beautiful and I am looking for a way to come home!!

I'm inclined to agree with you for the most part. I moved from Miami to the Tampa Bay area a little over ten years ago and I miss Miami terribly. As for the people being ruder in Miami I would have to disagree with regards to my own experience. People up here tend to be less friendly, extremely cliquish and flat out arrogant. Sometimes I think the only nice people up here for the most part are the Mexican community who have some of the kindest people I have ever known. And I still maintain people drive worse up here as well. Not much worse but worse none the less. Of course that is easy for me to say not living in Miami full time anymore but I do try and visit often if that counts.

Not trying to pick, but "The City Beautiful" refers to Coral Gables. I think you might have meant "The Magic City."

Not trying to spoil the party, but ten years is a long time to be away from a place. Lots of things change in that amount of time. However, I'm glad that both of you had positive experiences in Miami, so maybe you should come back and help add to the positive people population - there is always more room for that!

I know ten years is a long time and I do know that things are definately worse in Miami than when I grew up and lived there from 1971 to 1997 but I do still visit and while I notice the differences I still prefer Miami to Tampa. I would love to move back but I have a job that I love more than anything and I have elderly family in the area here I have to help with. Darn responsibilites lol. That and the fact that I couldn't afford to move back to the area I grew up in.

Would you say New yorkers and east coast people in general have somewhat thicker skin to deal with that type of attitude? People here get a little butt hurt and offended when you try to be blunt and straight to the point.
Hey sav, I actually go out to San Diego once a year to visit and have a good experience with people there. I think the major differences I've noticed is that people are more "aggro" on the east coast (I realize the sweeping generalization but it's my experience) when it comes to traffic. For example, looking for a spot at the store or general road driving. SD is famous for it's laid back vibe which is why I like to go out there and visit. My g/f is from there and she says the same - that people here are more high strung and I tend to agree with that. I think there are alot of friendly people down here, it just depends on what kind of person you are and where you look. If you go to the mall expecting to find happy, cheery people it's not going to happen. If you go to a local bar, that's where the chill, friendly people are at. Just my .02...

Chelito23 ...... U hit the nail on the head! I've been in the MIA 4.5 yrs & am suprised when I am smiled @ or greeted n a store. Common courtesy isn't that common in South Miami. Florida is beautiful, but many of the areas are difficult 2BN (Doral, Healiah, ...) and South Beach is full of tourist - not Miami ppl. My honeymoon phase ended and I hv filed for divorce.

My experience here in Miami is that there are sooo many hispanics that generally they're nice to you if your hispanic too. Meaning you speak spanish. Alot of Americans I know that live here hate it because they're treated differently. Sad but true.

How would someone who is hispanic, and looks it, be treated if they don't speak spanish? Does looking hispanic get you treated a little better even if you don't speak spanish. I'm just asking b/c I am hispanic and do not know spanish so i don't want to be treated like crap if i move to Miami.
