Well, even Pinecrest has roaches and crime, but he said he needs decent school districts. Quite honestly, that's the only place hes going to find it. That's why I suggested Palmetto Bay. Yes it's "upper middle class" but not just millionaires and it gets decent schools. Parts of Kendall and South Miami have good elementary schools however.

Who recommended Coral Gables though? Those people have so much money that they just skip over the public schools and send them to Gulliver, AND it's far from Homestead.

Thanks to everyone for their input. We were in Palmetto Bay this weekend house shopping and we like it.

Overall, we had a wonderfull time. However, we did have some trouble with other drivers.

I have lived in LA, NY, Dallas, Japan, Germany, etc... and never had a single day like the one I had driving in Miami. I was in town a day and a half and was almost "rubbed" (car in adjacent lane moving into my lane without looking) 4 times, was cut off where I had to slam on my brakes twice, and had my wife leered at and "cat called" at a red light. Not my best day of driving.

Drivers in Miami are definitely below average to put it a generous way. You will get used to it though. Good luck with everything.

Thanks again everyone, we are closing on a house in Palmetto Bay this month. The area is a perfect fit (good schools, low crime, modest neighborhood) and just within our financial reach (thanks to the tanking house market). Crisp was spot on with all advice.
