Hello-I have a friend (single female, 37 years old) that is thinking of moving from Columbus Ohio (She has lived in other places like DC) to the Brikel Key area for a great job. She is concerned about crime and the dating scene for someone who is caucasion and would likely prefer to date within her own race. Would love your input from any single ladies out there who are about her age. What is the single/dating scene like? She has a dog, is it dog friendly? she will be making around 115k so she should be able to live in a decent area.

Would love your input!

Honestly, the dating scene is tough from what I hear. I know a few friends in their 30s male and female. That all will tell you its tough in Miami to find someone that wants anything more than a one night stand or a buddy call companion. Luckily I am married, and don't have to go through that. As far as a caucasion woman dating, a caucasion man here in South Florida, well the pickings will be slim. As most men here are hispanic. 60%+ of the county is hispanic. If she moves here she may have to widen her net to include hispanic men. If she wants to date causcasion men in South Florida tell her to move to Palm Beach County.

Well, Brickell is very chic, so she's looking into the right area. Brickell has a lot of single professionals that work in and around Downtown and Brickell.

Miami is 78% White of those 57% are White Hispanics and 21% are White Non-Hispanics. Downtown and Brickell is mostly made up of whites, both Hispanic and Non-Hispanic. Those are the numbers, take it as you will.

Miami is 78% White?!?! No, no no! City-Data breaks it down as follows Miami, Florida (FL) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders

Races in Miami:

* Hispanic (65.8%)
* Black (22.3%)
* White Non-Hispanic (11.8%)
* Other race (5.4%)
* Two or more races (4.7%)
* American Indian (0.5%)

Miami is only 11.8% White. Also, City-Data says 57.4% of people in Miami were born in Latin America. Doggiebus is right on--your friend will probably have to widen her range to include Hispanic men. Brickell Key is a very nice, kind of exclusive area. I think she would like it. And no, I don't think crime is an issue in Brickell Key. It's pretty upscale. I don't think crime is any different in Miami than in most other big cities. Seems like people try to make it out to be worse than it really is, for whatever reason. I've never had any problems at all. DC is probably a lot worse than here, actually.

She will like Brickell and will soon be swayed by the tall, dark and handsome hispanic men with their brazen tanned bodies and sexy accents....forget crackers. Once she goes Hispanic, she'll never go back ! lol

Seriousely though....the dating scene like doggy bug mentioned is pretty much one night standish. It really is hard for a women to find a long term companion that is serious about settling down. I hear friends of mine that happen to be women complain about this all the time.

How about her dog ? It's going to be a PITA to take the elevator down...walk outside of her high rise....find a green area and let the dog do his/her thing. Three times a day of doing that is a PITA. Perhaps she would be better off renting a home? Or...she should consider doggy day care.

Default Dating..sigh

Thanks for the comments..Dating sucks beyond 30 in most places (I too am single) but it sounds like it might be especially harsh here. I envision men in Miami looking for perfect bodies and being all about looks. Then you throw in the one night stand thing and it sounds pretty BLEAK.

Good point on the dog thing. She loves her dog dearly and I think a high rise would be a pain in the ass in general, especially with a dog

Well, remember Hispanic isn't a race, so Hispanics can be of any race. Most Hispanics in Miami are white anyways, a few are mestizo and even less are black. Most Hispanics are white. That's what those numbers I posted reflected. At least that's how the US census does it, they categorize Hispanics based on their race and then give a total percentage.

Oh and also, Brickell is very safe, so no need to worry about crime there.

I can't believe anybody thinks that being hispanic automatically equals not being caucasian.

You need to know the difference between race and nationality/ethnicity.

kevin is correct.

I know nothing about the dating scene but do agree that a high rise with a dog is major PIA. Maybe a townhouse or one of those smaller buildings.

I think a single woman, in her 30's with a 6 figure salary can call her own shots.

Hispanics can be pale white, speak no spanish, and basically be the same thing as a "caucasian" man, same thing for women and especially children. The difference is sometimes non-existent.
