Default FIU grad student w/ work in ft lauderdale - help

I'm moving from Texas to Miami to attend FIU Biscayne Bay Campus (North campus) for graduate school. I was recently extended an offer to work with an agency in Ft Lauderdale (off of Commercial Blvd) while going to school.....

I'm just curious about the extent of this commute if I decided to take the offer. Driving time? Actual distance?

Additionally, if I were take this position, where would be an ideal place to live? I initially was going to live on campus @ FIU's North Campus, but should I not now? Maybe look north in Hollywood? Aventura? Davie?

And as a side note... anyone know of any PR/Mktg agencies closer to the FIU/North Miami area???

Thanks

-MM

Your best commute option is Hollywood. Live east of US1 in the Hollywood Lakes area, or if you can afford it look directly into the downtown area. There are some older but decent apartment buildings there that are very safe and offer affordable rent for this area (750-850 month range) and it's also pretty walkable to grocery stores, restaurants, even some nightlife. For one of the newer condos on Youngs Circle or downtown, expect somewhere in the low to mid 1,000s. For the commute, you just shoot up and down 95 and since you wont spent much/any time south of the Golden Glades the traffic shouldn't be much of an issue. The real issue will be dodging the crazy drivers on 10 lane I-95.

I agree with compelled.

Hollywood ( East of US-1 ) is a good and safe neighborhood ( especially the Hollywood Lakes and Hollywood Beach areas ), and also is affordable to rent.
