For Miami Natives,

What kind of gay life does Miami have to offer? What are the attitudes of most gay guys? I heard most are party animals that offer nothing but drugs and diseases. Are the promiscious or do you see a lot of commited relationships? I know that there are a couple gay pornagraphy studios, but no gay pride events. "From what I know)
You don't have to be gay or don't have to live in Miami, for those who visited Miami and experianced the gay scene. I have a strong desire to move to Miami for some odd reason and want a good gay scene.
Any comments?

South Beach has more gays than almost any other part of the United States.

From what I have heard, the gays have left Miami behind. Fort Lauderdale is the new area for them. Miami Beach has a few, but basically Miami-Dade county is obsolete even to the gay community.

Let me say this, I have never seen more gays in suburbia, when you go to a mall or even a wal-mart or my own office complex, it amazes me since its more usual for them to pick a certian trendy spot, like the beach or upper east side. In Orlando the gay community too was like that but not as much as Ive noticed it here. Not only Miami but south florida seems to be a magnet for the gay community, South Beach and like I found out this weekend the Upper East Side have large gay communities.
I was also in Ft. Lauderdale beach a while ago and coincidently there happened to be a huge gay pride concert and festival that same day, so Broward seems to be the same.

Gays mostly visit Miami although there is a small cluster of then in South Beach. I can't exactly vouch for the gay life as a straight male but I actually do have a gay friend, he tells me gay life in South Florida is very good but South Beach is supposed to be very "discovered" since it is a huge "destination". He likes unspoiled.

Mainland Miami can actually be surprisingly homophobic (not everywhere), especially in the more conservative immigrant enclave areas, although as a whole it is tolerant. For that reason most gays live in Ft. Lauderdale, especially Wilton Manors which has more gays than West Hollywood, CA and experience a high level of tolerance all over the area. Gay pride festivals are extremely common and the rainbow flags are all over town.

A lot of gay men live in the Upper East Side and in South Beach. South Beach has one of the country's largest concentrations of gay guys. Another big area is Wilton Manors.

South Florida has a very large, active gay community. Yeah, there are guys looking to just have fun but there are also guys looking for relationships (esp. guys who have lived on the beach for a few years).

LOL, take it from someone who actually been in this lifestyle. Don't count on having a relationship here! Dont expect it to happen within the first year either...it wont happen. What you heard about promiscuos and disease...is not hearsay, but rather truth in the matter. I have already attempted.

The attitude of the gays here is pretty shady. Yea, you will meet lots of people. It's easy to meet people here. But, dont get your hopes up thinking its going to turn into anything past 2 night stands. Its not gonna happen so soon. It will eventually, after you go thru some hell. Why? Because this is a vacation town and there is so many hot guys, that people want it all. It's bad enough when the majority of the gay life is already that way, but when you mix in the word Miami into it...you're asking for trouble if you expect to find a bunch of relationship oriented people everywhere. Dont expect much, learn the ones that are just fooling around, and maybe...one day, down the line you could probably find something long term. Take it from me.

One last thing, i caught pubic lice when I first moved down, a friend of mine recently got diagnosed with scabies and venerial disease. and south beach has the highest HIV in Florida. just be cautious

Very accurate. This is what a friend of mine always says. Yet I don't think many gays want to be limited to just one guy, instead the "couples" fool around from what I have heard. It must be terrible to be a practicing homosexual who wants a monogamous "relationship" in Miami.

I have some gay male friends. I think just like any other population you have the people who like to party and hook up like there is no tomorrow and then you have the couples who have been well established and have been together for years.
